History

Karl Kraft was a Nazi spy who was active during World War II. In the spring of 1944, he was located in Washington, D.C., operating a spy network out of a laundry service. He targeted scientist John Barnes, who had just finished inventing a "Poison Gas Detecting Barometer" for the military. Kraft learned of Barnes' operations through the laundry service and murdered Barnes and assumed his identity.

He disguised a bomb to resemble the barometer and turned it over to military officials at the US Army Ordinance Corporation. The resulting explosion killed all of the men in the room, and John Barnes was blamed for the deaths. Barnes happened to be a colleague of the costumed hero known as the Angel, who went to Washington to investigate the crime along with reporter Nan Carter.

Searching Barnes' home, they made the connection between Barnes and Kraft and traced the location of his hideout. The Angel sent Nan to pose as someone who had information about how the barometer operated, and she was taken to Kraft's hideout by his minions. Kraft saw through this ploy and tied Nan up and began preparing a trap for the Angel. The Angel however came to Nan's rescue and easily trounced Kraft and his men, leaving them to be picked up by the FBI.[1]

Karl's subsequent fate is unknown.
