I was the perfect church girl. I never did anything disobedient or different or what I wanted. But now that I know I'm, like, a total freak, maybe I'm free to be who I really am. And to be honest about who I want to be with.

Karolina Dean[source]

History

Karolina was a daughter of Leslie Dean and the Magistrate, Gibborim inhabiting the body of Jonah, which made her a half-alien hybrid.[1] After joining the Runaways, Karolina eventually began a relationship with her teammate Nico Minoru.

Attributes

Powers

As a Gibborim-Human hybrid, Karolina displays many superhuman abilities common to other members of her species, including:

  • Light Manipulation: Karolina can manipulate and convert light into a unique energy type that was integral to her bioluminescent body. The biochemistry of her species can generate and manipulate photokinetic energies for offensive purposes or for the purposes of glamour.
    • Bioluminescence: Karolina is capable of converting her body completely into light energy. In her natural state, Karolina's skin and hair are luminescent with a rainbow-colored aura. Her appearance can be suppressed to appear human through training. Originally, she was unable to control this ability, and required her Gibborim bracelet to suppress it. However, she was able to appear human without her bracelet with practice.
    • Energy Projection: Karolina can emit light-energy blasts in variable intensity and diameter, to disorient or injure her enemies. Her energy beams reflects the vibrant colors of her bioluminescent body.
      • Technopathy: She can disrupt nearby electronics with her presence, being able to hack into Nico Minoru's home and reprogramming their security system.
    • Force Fields: Karolina can use her light-energy to create powerful defensive/protective shields/barriers.
    • Flight: Karolina is able to use her light powers to move herself and others through the air, leaving a rainbow-like trail behind.
  • Immortality: As a Gibborim, Karolina can live for centuries.
  • Regeneration: The Gibborim's host bodily fluids have regenerative properties.
