History
Kenneth Kong was a student at ESU, who witnessed Starbrand and Nightmask in action, discovering their identities.[2]
A college football player at one point, Kenny suffered a career-ending injury to his knee.[3]
Kenny worked at the Coffee Bean and began a relationship with his coworker and fellow student Shelly Conklin. He also became acquainted with Peter Parker, who was a regular at the Coffee Bean.[1]
A Coffee Bean regular named Marv approached Kenny and Shelly after work to be paid beta testers for his video game called the Arcadium, which they accepted.[4] Unbeknownst to Kenny, Marv was the supervillain Mentallo and the Arcadium was illusion-making machine created by him and Arcade where they could gain information from their unwitting victims by attaching them to the Arcadium and making them live out their fantasies. In Kenny's simulation, he recovered from his knee injury and was drafted by the New York Giants. While trapped in the Arcadium, Kenny and Shelly didn't show up to work for several days, prompting the two Spider-Men to investigate their disappearance.[3] Kenny, Shelly and the Arcadium's other victims were eventually freed from their simulations after the Spider-Men managed to disable it.[5]Notes
- Kenny Kong might have been inspired by Kenny Kong from the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series, who in turn was based off of Kenny "Kong" McFarlane from the Ultimate Universe comics. Both versions of Kenny Kong were created by Greg Weisman.
- Another character based off the original Kong from Ultimate named Kenny McFarlane Jr. appeared in Venom (Vol. 4) #35.
