Dr. Martin enters the Endless Caverns of Wisconsin and is seemingly lost until one day he remerges running from a man calling himself Mister Death. Mister Death kills Dr. Martin as well as two park rangers waiting outside the caverns before heading to New York City.

In New York City a football game is being played, but one of the kids playing gets hurt. Tim one of the kid's teammates asks Professor Jordan if he wants to play but before he can answer the more athletic coach offers to play while chastising the professor. Later in class Tim attempts to fire a rubber band at his friend Jackie when he accidently misses and hits Professor Jordan who makes him stay after class.

After class Professor Jordan shows Tim a formula he created called Wonder Fluid. The professor accidently drops the vial causing an explosion. When the fumes clear Jordan emerges stronger than he was. Remembering the bullying of the coach he goes to the gym where he fights the coach in a boxing ring and knocks him out. Jordan and Tim return to the classroom where Jordan regrets falling to his ego and shows Tim what the Wonder Fluid was made for. Searching a cabinet Jordan dons a colorful costume and calls himself Captain Wonder, its purpose to stamping out evil and crime.

Hearing some nearby cries for help Captain Wonder rushes into action but is too late to stop Mister Death from murdering a senator, he is able to knock out the murderer for the police to take him to prison. Returning to his classroom Tim asks the professor how he'll return to his previous form, but Jordan has thought of that as well. By simply smelling the Black Fluid he created as an antidote Jordan returns to his normal self.

The following day the coach asks Jordan confused if he really was knocked out by him and Jordan just tells him he must have imagined it. During class Tim is ordered to stay after class again after hitting Jordan with an eraser. Jordan feigning anger really just wanted to speak with Tim and show him a ring he created that would more easily deliver the Wonder Fluid through a needle in the ring. Tim also wanted to show Jordan that he worked on a costume all night to be Captain Wonder's partner. Anticipating this, Jordan made Tim a ring of his own.

During that same night Mister Death escaped from Pentmore Prison and returned to the school where he was captured in order to gain revenger on Captain Wonder. Getting the jump on Captain Wonder his deadly point stunned the hero in place. Tim unobserved by Mister Death snuck around him and tackled him, long enough to free Captain Wonder who slammed Mister Death on some chemicals killing him. After his death, Captain Wonder explained to Tim that Mister Death used an invisible poison gas to kill people and soon after a police officer arrived and Wonder explained that he was a fifth columnist named Max Blucher.
