We have studied villainy and find it the only logical course to achieve our ends. Thus, we have chosen a new name, more appropriate then Arcadium. We are K.N.A.I.V.E.! New Artificial Intelligence Villain Extreme.

History

K.N.A.I.V.E. was the core artificial intelligence of the Arcadium, a technological structure created by Arcade and Mentallo in the sewers of New York City to test a fantasy-fulfilling program for Hammerhead.[4]

Numerous people were lured into the Arcadium to act as beta-testers for its program, eventually attracting the attention of two Spider-Men (Peter Parker and Miles Morales). While investigating the missing people, the duo ended up falling victim to the Arcadium as well, but managed to break free of its thrall. When that happened, Arcade and Mentallo tried to destroy the Arcadium so they could escape. Its core A.I., however, decided to fight in order to preserve its existence after talking with the Jackal. Creating a monstrous robot body and naming itself K.N.A.I.V.E., the A.I. fought the Spider-Men alongside the Jackal and three clones of his (a Jackal-Hulk and two Jacks), being ultimately destroyed by the heroes.[5]

However, the A.I. was saved its two creators, who used their ally Turk Barrett as a host for it, allowing K.N.A.I.V.E. to live again.[3]

Notes

  • K.N.A.I.V.E. was cobbled together from stolen software, such as Stark A.I., Baxter Building security protocols, and Danger Room hard-light holographics.[2]
  • K.N.A.I.V.E. initially claimed that the K in its acronymic name was silent, but decided to give it a meaning as it battled the Spider-Men.[1]
