- The story-arc might be inspired by Shadows in the Skull! by L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter, in which Conan faces and finally slays Thoth-Amon at the Beach at the Edge of the World. The story was adapted in King Conan #4 (December, 1980), by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. It should be noted that those two stories contradict each other, due to the facts Thoth-Amon is alive, Conan doesn't recognize him, and both claim their encounter to be the first.
