History

Origin and Early Years[]

The crustacean known as the King Crab,[1] or simply "King Crab", was a mercenary, same as Manowar,[3] a terrorist jellyfish.[1]

Defender of the Deep[]

After King Namor decided to take a more aggressive stance towards the surface world, he assembled the Defenders of the Deep, a team established to accommodate to his new policies regarding relationships between the ocean and the surface world. Namor declared the oceans off-limits to all but their native inhabitants, and used the Defenders of the Deep to drive off any human presence on the ocean.[2] Among them were Andromeda, Manowar, Echidna, the Piranhas, Bloodtide, Tiger Shark, and the King Crab.[1]

Namor and the Defenders of the Deep later attacked the "trespassers" of Hydropolis, in the South Pacific, throwing the human inhabitants out and into the ocean. The Avengers intervened, and King Crab fought Thor. The Defenders had the edge, until the Winter Guard showed up as well. Defeated, Namor ordered a retreat, while the two surface super-teams bickered.[1][1]

Namor resented using Atlantis' "most unsavory elements" to defend his people. He consequently decided to call the Phoenix Force.[4] The Defenders of the Deep escorted Namor as he came to welcome the Phoenix Force at Avengers Mountain, having them keep the Avengers at bay. Namor was teleported to a tournament in the White Hot Room,[5] while the Defenders remained at Avengers Mountain, still facing the Avengers yet without attacking.[6] The Defenders and Avengers eventually resume tp fighting,[6][7] until Namor was beaten and the Phoenix claimed by Echo (Maya Lopez).[8]

At the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, at the Atlantean Coliseum of the Null Shark Matador, Namor was faced by his people blaming him for his failures, notably the Phoenix fiasco. Along with all Defenders of the Deep and other Atlantean factions (including the Sea Blades, the fundamentalists OctoPriests, and the Black Tide), King Crab challenged Namor to force him out of the Coral Throne of Atlantis. After the interruption of a Russian-controlled She-Hulk, the Avengers attacked, and Echidna and King Crab were neutralized by Ghost Rider.[9]

Mercenary[]

After yet another campaign against the surface-dwellers, Namor abdicated the throne of Atlantis, surrendered to the surface justice, and was imprisoned at the Sea Cage Prison in the Sea of Set (Southern Ocean).[3] Seven parties emerged as pretenders to the throne of Atlantis: Snake-worshiping Lemurians, the Scientists Supreme of Old Atlantis, the Abbot and his monks, King Kailani of the Secret Seas, the King in Coral, the Lord of Orphans, and King Attuma of the Skarka. Amidst the War of Seven Kings, Atlantis was abandoned, and Lemuria ended up in ruins.[10]

Along with his fellow Defender Manowar, King Crab resumed his activities as a mercenary.[3] The two were hired by Attuma to attack the Sea Cage Prison and assassinate Namor. After having defeated the venom-dipped bladed Skarka assassin and dispatched Manowar, Namor returned to the prison and defeated King Crab, punching him into unconsciousness before throwing his carcass out of the prison. King Crab was later glimpsed at the infirmary of the Sea Cage Prison.[3]
