While on a wandering planet, pondering the meaning of his existence, Adam Warlock came into contact with an ancient alien sage who called himself an Ancient Traveler, or, if he preferred, a Humble Thinker. Having heard Warlock's complaints, the sage told him that there was no greater meaning to existence than life itself. He also told him that before his death, which would be caused by Thanos and himself within a year, he would also see the deaths of Pip, Gamora, and other people Adam cared about, including the High Evolutionary, of which he would be the cause, and he would live out his final days as the most hated being to ever travel through space. Soon after, the ancient alien disappeared without a trace.[2]
