—Knull[source]Show some spine, Galan. For an ancient scientist, you are far too passive. A deceiver inherently believes themselves wiser than the deceived.
History
Knull's original appearance
The Knull of Earth-2099 presumably shares the history of his counterpart from Earth-616 - having created the Symbiotes to corrupt and consume the gods and their creations, returning the universe to the Void; only to have been imprisoned by them at the core of the Symbiote Throneworld. The Nova Corps were unsure of his true origin but believed him to originate from Ginnungagap, the void between the Sixth and Seventh Cosmos.[3]
After being freed from his Klyntar, Knull attacked Earth but was defeated and seemingly killed by Venom. However, Knull survived the battle, albeit his physical body was destroyed, leaving his consciousness to lay dormant within a large piece of symbiote matter drifting at the edge of the universe.[1][2] Knull's worshippers, including a gang of symbiote-infected desperados called the Knull Set, began ritualistically sacrificing any Light they could find in the hopes of reviving him.[3]
Nearly eighty years later, a famished Galactus came across the enormous symbiote piece containing Knull's consciousness. Knull spoke to the World Devourer, promising him great knowledge and power if he consumed the symbiote matter. Galactus did so, and he was immediately engulfed by the living abyss, allowing Knull to possess Galactus' body, and upon merging together he rechristened their union Abyssus, the Devourer in Black.[2] Abyssus attempted to seize control of the Venom symbiote, but it managed to fight his control once again and was left horrified that he had survived their battle.[1]
Following Dracula's failed attempt to conquer the universe, Abyssus found and claimed him as their herald,[4] Bloodwielder. Abyssus then began roaming the cosmos devouring not only planets but all life on them, consuming even the souls of their inhabitants. Abyssus devouring the planet Ioda caused chaos across the universe as many planets relied on it as a server to route information. As Abyssus prepared to devour the planet Contraxia, the devil Mephisto--goaded by Silver Surfer into taking action--glassed it with hellfire and challenged Abyssus to a Contest of Champions; Galan warning an unconcerned Knull about the Hell-Lord's duplicity. In response to Mephisto summoning the heroes and antiheroes of Earth-2099 to fight for him, Abyssus summoned champions from across the Multiverse and infected them with "Knull Seed" symbiotes in order to enthrall them.[2]Attributes
Powers
King in Black: As the King in Black, Knull possessed the power to manipulate living abyss to create Symbiotes and other dark entities, and could bend them to his will.[1][3] As the King in Black, Knull was also capable of reaching through the Symbiote Hive-Mind into any universe where Klyntar symbiotes exist, and--augmented by the Power Cosmic--summoning anyone he chose from those universes.[2]
Power Cosmic: After taking possession of Galactus, Knull could now access his Power Cosmic which greatly increased his already existing power.[2]Paraphernalia
