History
Overview[]
Korbin is an Earth-like planet located within the Burning Galaxy, a relatively distant and lesser-known galactic region. The planet orbits a stable, yellow-white star and possesses a temperate climate, oxygen-rich atmosphere, and diverse biosphere. Its geography consists of vast plains, highland steppes, crystalline mountain ranges, and deep cerulean seas. Though habitable, much of Korbin's surface is rugged and untamed, shaped by aeons of tectonic activity and powerful native fauna. Korbin is home to a technologically advanced species known as the Korbinites, a humanoid race possessing both physical durability and spiritual resilience. The Korbinites developed a peaceful and structured civilization that thrived through energy mastery, genetic engineering, and advanced space travel. Reverent of order and tradition, Korbinites typically select champions through rigorous testing, with the mightiest among them undergoing augmentation to serve as planetary protectors. The most renowned of these is Beta Ray Bill.
Despite its advanced civilization, much of Korbin remains wild and untamed. The planet supports an array of unique species, the most infamous of which is the Tuogs a ferocious, equine-like predator native to the planet's high plains and rocky canyons. Tuogs possess orangey-brown hides, dual tails, three sharp hooved claws per limb, and a mouth lined with razor-sharp teeth, including prominent upper and lower fangs. Their agility, strength make them one of the deadliest creatures on Korbin. It is from this apex predator that the Korbinites drew genetic material to enhance Beta Ray Bill, giving him an edge against galactic threats.[1] Before this cataclysm, the Korbinites had lived for millennia in peace, forming an interstellar empire through the colonisation of other worlds.[2]
Arrival of the Silver Surfer[]
Many years ago, the Silver Surfer arrived on Korbin while seeking a suitable world to satisfy his master, Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds whom the Korbinites knew as "Ashta." However, upon discovering Korbin's advanced and peaceful civilization, the Surfer chose to spare the planet from destruction.[3]
Arrival of Surtur[]
Surtur ignited the core of the Burning Galaxy to fuel his Twilight Sword with life energy.[2] The Korbinite scientist witnessed throught their most powerful telescope.[4] To safeguard their people they decided to create a champion selecting young Korbinites to compete for the honor.[4] Thousands competed for the role of protector, but Bill was ultimately chosen for his strength, bravery, and his bioengineering—infused with the DNA of the planet's most fearsome predator, the Tuog.[5][1] They chose their greatest warrior and, through advanced science, transformed him into Beta Ray Bill, their champion. Bill was allowed to say goodbye to his mother before being sent out as their protector.[6] Alongside his sentient ship, Skuttlebutt, Bill defended the Korbinites who were placed in stasis aboard a fleet of ten thousand ships from the onslaught of demons unleashed from the remnants of the galactic core.[7][8]
However, as Surtur prepared to attack the Nine Realms, his forces triggered a massive cosmic upheaval across the Burning Galaxy, destroying most Korbinite colonies. Although the planet Korbin survived the initial blast, rising temperatures made it increasingly uninhabitable.[5] In response, the Korbinites constructed a fleet of ten thousand enormous, sentient starships. Lacking sufficient resources for space travel, the population was placed in cryogenic stasis while the ships sought out a new world.[5][1]
The fleet departed just before Korbin's final destruction. Even in space, they remained under threat as the demonic horde pursued them across the stars.[5] Narrowly escaping, the flagship, Skuttlebutt, guided by Beta Ray Bill, led the survivors toward a distant solar system, still pursued by the relentless demons.[2]Residents
