History
After the Communist Revolution, Kowloon Walled City was a community that was in no man's land between British-controlled Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China. Neither patrolled the area, therefore by the 1950s it was run by the Triads. With no government regulation, towers were built without any planning resulting in a super-compressed city.
It was claustrophobic and full of rubbish and wires. Over 30,000 people lived in what was called "The Most Lawless City on Earth". It's main export was heroin and fishballs. Eventually the British and Hong Kong police cracked down on Kowloon City, and tried to clean it up without any success. In 1993, they it tore down and turned it into the Kowloon Walled City Park.[1]See Also
