History
The island nation of Krakoa was hit at night by the V-Wave, a dark magic unleashed by the vampire terrorist Deacon Frost. It turned one half of Krakoa's mutant population into humans and the other into vampires. The vampire half began to feast on the human half right after conversion, with only Nightcrawler managing to get out of there alive. Krakoa went dark soon afterwards.[1]
