The third Krakoa acted as the school grounds for Wolverine's Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.[1]

History

Maximillian von Katzenelnbogen grew this grandchild of Krakoa in an artificial supergarden. This Krakoa was beaten and abused its entire life, trained to only hate and rage.[2]

When Wolverine split from Cyclops and returned to New York, he planned to build a new school. Naming this the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, he opened it up to any mutant who would come with him. Secretly, the Hellfire Club had placed Krakoa on the campus, and the school was built atop it.[3] When the Hellfire Club had Krakoa attack, Kid Omega accessed his mind and discovered his origins. He had Krakoa open up to Marvel Girl, who relayed his apologies to Headmaster Wolverine. As Krakoa was a mutant and wanted to join the X-Men, he was allowed to stay, Logan finding it good to have school grounds which could fight back.[2] Krakoa's ability to grow diamonds on trees was a helpful remedy for the school's money woes.[4]

When the Krakoa-like creature dubbed "Dark Krakoa" in Utah became upset, their shared connection to the earth's greater ecosystem caused this Krakoa to become ill as well, spewing up interstellar hydrogen left in the earth by Kree technology. Though Storm was forced to destroy the Dark Krakoa, Jubilee saved a living piece of the creature's body and placed it into Krakoa's custody in the hopes that it might someday grow into something more.[5]

  • Though Krakoa is generally referred to as "he", the X-Men admit the concept of "gender" may not strictly apply to him.[2]
