History

The L-Cypher was a rogue cyberspace program, created by the Ghost Works to be their interface with humanity. However, it proved to be a sadistic killer who saw organic life as obsolete. The Ghost Works imprisoned it until it was accidentally released by a hacker.[1]

Once free, it took over the holographic amusement park Thrillsville, sealing its workers and customers inside and replacing all of its entertainment programs with demonic imagery based on Dante's Inferno.

When Ghost Rider entered Thrillsville to investigate, L-Cypher attacked him with various holographic creations and the Archfiends, humans forcibly converted into cybernetic extensions of L-Cypher's will. The Cypher tortured Ghost Rider, but then led Ghost Rider to believe he had successfully infiltrated Cypher's systems, causing the program to delete itself. In fact, L-Cypher had secretly uploaded itself to a newly-cloned organic body, allowing it to disappear into the crowd of humanity, undetectable by the Ghost Works.[2]
