History

Early Life[]

LaHoya Scripps was a performer and fitness enthusiast living in Los Angeles. She resided in the same apartment building as aspiring director Argus LaVecchio, professional dancer Aundray Phelps, and actor-turned-superhero Wonder Man. The building was managed by former film star Gloria Angel.[2] Though primarily focused on her fitness and performance career, LaHoya developed close friendships with her neighbors. This social circle expanded to include screenwriter Alex Flores, Alex's daughter Jamie, thrill-seeking actress Ginger Beach, and Ginger's younger brother, Esteban, known as “Spider.”[3]

Ionic Exposure and Transformation[]

After Wonder Man was attacked by Angkor, the residents helped him back to his apartment, only to witness a sudden and violent discharge of unstable ionic energy.[4] Though they appeared unharmed, each of the eight present individuals began developing superhuman abilities over time.[5] LaHoya discovered she had gained immense physical strength far beyond human limits. Her muscular development increased subtly, and she found herself able to lift heavy objects with ease.[6]

Joining the Crazy Eight[]

LaHoya embraced her newfound powers and took the codename Buff when the group decided to form a superhero team called the Crazy Eight, intended to fill the void left by Wonder Man's growing instability.[7] With Auteur as their leader, the team included Dreamer, Stat, Snap, Glamour Girl, Attractive Lad, Visionary, and Buff. LaHoya’s physical strength made her the team’s powerhouse, often engaging directly in combat and shielding teammates.[8] The Crazy Eight's first major mission was to take down Armed Response, a supposedly lawful organisation revealed to be working for Lotus Newmark.[9] Though the team was victorious and exposed the operation, they were soon attacked by hired killers Splice and Rampage.LaHoya fought valiantly during the battle and helped hold the line, though the group suffered major injuries..[10]

Disbandment[]

Following a metaphysical conflict involving Auteur, Mephisto, Blackheart, and the Grim Reaper, Wonder Man reabsorbed the ionic energy from his friends to stabilise his own condition and restore their lives.[11] LaHoya, along with most of the group, lost her powers.[12] After Wonder Man's apparent death during the Scatter conflict, the Crazy Eight disbanded.[13] LaHoya returned to acting and was cast, alongside Ginger Beach, in a television series filmed in New Zealand.[14]
