History
Lancaster Sneed was born in Newcastle, United Kingdom. He was the nephew of Sir Denis Nayland Smith and became an agent for MI6. During a mission in Africa, he suffered severe facial injuries. Instead of undergoing plastic surgery, Sneed opted to have metal plates implanted into his face. However, MI6 doctors deemed him mentally unfit for service, leading to his discharge. Following this setback, Sneed immersed himself in martial arts and later reinvented himself as a circus performer under the alias "Shockwave."[2]
Returning to the United Kingdom, Sneed developed an experimental exoskeleton to enhance his combat abilities. He conspired to assassinate his uncle and Black Jack Tarr, and transitioned into freelance espionage. When James Larner was discharged from MI6, Sneed attempted to recruit him, but Larner refused. Sneed subsequently battled Shang-Chi[2] and was ultimately revealed to be Smith’s nephew. He was defeated by Shang-Chi, leaving him severely injured.[3]
A robotic duplicate of Sneed later surfaced, under the control of Doctor Doom.[4] Eventually, MI6 brainwashed Sneed, compelling him to attack his uncle. He later confronted Clive Reston and Shang-Chi again.[5]
Sneed later allied with the robotic Brynocki and engaged in battle against Shang-Chi and Leiko Wu on Mordillo Island. When Brynocki turned against him, Sneed was forced to fight alongside Shang-Chi, Leiko Wu, and Black Jack Tarr to defeat Brynocki’s mechanical army.[6] Forming alliances with Maximillian Zaran and Razor Fist, Sneed later assaulted the Avengers West Coast on behalf of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Deltite.[7] However, he was defeated by Iron Man and managed to escape.[8]
Sneed later joined a coalition of supervillains involved in a R.A.I.D. terrorist plot in London but was ultimately thwarted by Union Jack.[9] Partnering with Jack O'Lantern and Jackhammer, Sneed attempted to flood the Thames Tunnel but was defeated single-handedly by Union Jack.[10] During a subsequent attack on MI5 headquarters led by Ecstasy, Shockwave was the only operative of R.A.I.D. to be freed, though he was later captured once more.[11]
During a mass breakout at the Raft, Sneed attempted to escape but was intercepted and stopped by the New Avengers.[12] During the Civil War, he was among several supervillains attempting to flee the country but was captured by Heroes for Hire. Following this, he was recruited into the Initiative.[1] Sneed later joined the Hood’s criminal syndicate.[13] Shockwave participated in the battle against the Skrulls during the Secret Invasion,[14][15] but later found himself facing off against the New Avengers.[16] During Norman Osborn's pursuit of Tony Stark, Shockwave was dispatched to capture Stark in Bayeux, France, but was ultimately defeated when Stark electrocuted him.[17]
At some point, Shockwave was apprehended by S.H.I.E.L.D. and incarcerated at Pleasant Hill.[18] He later attended a clandestine meeting of supervillains organized by Wizard, where they discussed how to handle Doctor Doom following his unexpected transformation into a superhero and the new Iron Man. The meeting was abruptly interrupted when Doom appeared and incapacitated all attendees.[19] Shockwave later participated in an ambush against Doom, alongside several other defeated villains.[20]
He also attended a gathering where villains deliberated on the Hood’s ascension as the new Kingpin of crime.[21] Later, he rejoined the Hood’s gang and participated in the looting of Castle Doom in an attempt to seize Doom’s wealth.[22]Attributes
