Synopsis for "Entangled"
Responding to a Mindless One incursion on Throneworld II, Emperor Hulkling calls in assistance from the imprisoned Captain Glory. Briefing the Captain, Hulkling tells him that their calls to Alpha Flight have gone unanswered. They work to defend the planet, checking in on comms with Lauri-Ell in the southern quadrant, before two Macro-Mindless Ones bring down Captain Glory and the blade Excelsior is broken by enemy fire. On Planet Arakko, Doctor Doom and Storm discuss mysterium over dinner, the Latverian ruler revealing he knows that the material comes from the White Hot Room. He warns Storm that there will be consequences before Commander Brand uses Mentallo’s telepathy to inform Storm of the ongoing situation in the stars, en route to bring her team to assist Hulkling. Needing to check in with Arakko’s governing body, the Great Ring, Storm ends the shared meal with a lightning bolt through the table, rejecting the notion that mutants need Doom’s help. Brand’s team finds an injured Emperor, and Brand misleads him about the reasons Alpha Flight and the Scarlet Witch have not come to his aid, Brand having secretly intercepted and blocked his message to Alpha Flight and the Witch being dead. Manifold transports him back to the Peak’s med bay as the team enters into defensive battle with the Mindless Ones.
Last Annihilation: Wiccan & Hulkling Years ago, Teddy Altman and Billy Kaplan sat in third period science class. Asking her students to define quantum entanglement, the teacher received a wrong answer calling on Teddy before Billy gave the correct one, enduring homophobic remarks from classmates Norris and Kesler. The teacher told Teddy to thank Billy for rescuing him before continuing with the lesson. Later, Teddy found Billy reading comic books and introduced himself, offering the other boy half of his sandwich. Billy admitted he sometimes went to the Avengers Mansion ruins, and the two expressed interest in spending further time together. Billy sat with Teddy’s mom at the football game and she told him that Teddy speaks about him often. She said she needed to go home early and asked Billy to walk her son home. After the game, Norris and Kesler began to harass Billy on the football field while he waited. Teddy rushed to his defense, and they stood together against the bullies. Teddy came looking for Billy at Avengers Mansion, and the boys revealed their powers to each other and shared their first kiss before Iron Lad and brought them onto the Young Avengers.
In the present, Billy fights against invading Mindless Ones alongside the Knights of the Infinite as the Kree-Skull Alliance’s Prince Consort, Wiccan. S.W.O.R.D. Commander Brand and her team arrive to aid them, and show them his husband’s broken blade Excelsior. Knowing that Dormammu is targeting places of spiritual significance, they go to the Monastery Lake of Ny’ni-ahn and Wiccan attempts to mend the sword. Mur-G’nn expresses doubt that the legends surrounding the lake are true, less naive after her father and Wiccan were possessed by Moridun. Wiccan can feel that something is off regarding his magic, and Brand makes a strange comment before moving to defend the wizard from the dark forces. Dormammu manifests before Wiccan, addressing him as his incumbent self, the Demiurge, and telling him that there isn’t space in the universe for them both. He takes hold of Wiccan and brings him close to threaten him, but the wizard touches the demon, taking the power of the Flames of the Faltine to reforge the Emperor’s sword.
Teddy defends Throneworld II as Emperor Hulkling alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avalanche, who accidentally destroys a bridge, sending his compatriots tumbling down. Lost, Hulkling and the Guardians discover an interfacing chamber and a distorted Supreme Intelligence, made of remnant personalities after Noh-Varr incorporated the system into the Utopian Plex. Hulkling feels hopeless as the undead entity begins a countdown to planetary destruction in response to the Dark Dimension’s threat. Noh-Varr encourages Phyla-Vell to talk with Hulkling, who has been avoiding her half-brother due to the actions of his counterpart in her home dimension. She sits with the Emperor, reminding him of all the love he has in his life.
Months ago, before their wedding, Teddy woke Billy up for their big day. He told him the origin of their wedding rings, of the Nega-Bands’ powers. Teddy knelt and asked BIlly once more if he would marry him. Billy accepted him with a kiss. Now, facing down the Supreme Intelligence and Dormammu, they raise their arms and use the bands to swap positions. Emperor Hulkling stabs Excelsior into Dormammu, disrupting his magic, while Wiccan sends the power of the extinction level explosion out into the stars, destroying Dormammu’s ships.
