After the Great Cataclysm, Lemuria was partly retrofitted by the Deviants, while other parts later became the home of the underwater race known as the Lemurians. Lemuria was founded by a splinter group of Homo mermanus[1] who made their way to the Pacific Ocean, whereas Atlantis had been in the Atlantic.[7]

History

Origins[]

Within less than five centuries (between 5,800 to 5,300 BC) after the victory of the Atlanteans over the rule of the Unforgiven Dead,[8] a faction emerged among the water-breathing Atlanteans, worshiping the Elder God Set.[1] They abandoned Atlantis to colonize the remnants of Lemuria,[8] unclaimed,[1] in the Pacific Ocean and founded their city of Lemuria.[9]

15th century: Naga's rule[]

In the 15th century, Naga began his rule over the Homo mermanus kingdom of Lemuria and claimed the Serpent Crown, causing the beginning of the Lemurians' transformation, granting some of them scales and/or green skin.[1]

Naga's rule ends[]

For 500 years, the Lemurians were ruled over by the mad king Naga, who wore the Serpent Crown. The crown had kept Naga young, but when the crown was stolen from him he began to age. Naga enlisted Karthon the Quester to steal the crown. Once Naga was reunited with the crown it did not restore his youth but he was too mad to believe otherwise. Namor challenged Naga to battle and Naga played a trick and made Namor believe that he had killed Namor's beloved Dorma. In fact Naga had killed Karthon's sister, causing[citation needed] Karthon to turn against Naga and kill him.[1]

Karthon the Quester's rule[]

Karthon then proclaimed himself king.[1] Under Karthon's wise and just rule, the Lemurians had a peaceful civilization and were allies of the Atlanteans,[2] but this did not last.[citation needed]

Merro's rule[]

Naga's son Merro ascended to the throne.[citation needed]

Llyra's rule[]

Merro was later murdered by his wife Llyra, who became Empress. Llyra was half-human as her mother was human and her father Llyron was Lemurian.[citation needed]

2010s[]

Attuma's rule[]

Attuma somehow acquired command of Lemuria, though he publicly declared to do not owe it allegiance, as he desired a greater destiny: Atlantis.[10]

He used his position to master the magics that he used to summon[10] creatures from Lemurian legend to attack freighters, leading to S.H.I.E.L.D. and China to deploy the Hulk and the Dreadnought.[11] Mocking the Lemurian Fleet, Attuma had the chief wizard Rasa to create a weapon so deadly that Atlantis would beg him to take the throne. Meanwhile, the Lemurian Rebel Army was formed by ex-patriots that opposed Attuma's militarization of Lemuria into a fortress. The rebels, including Mara and her betrothed Canor, were joined by Banner/Hulk. They launched an attack against Attuma, destroying Rasa's works, while Hulk punched Attuma into the mouth of the Kophin, a mystical beast he had summoned.

Rebels' rule[]

Within the hour, the forces of Attuma, without leadership, folded. Banner offered to ask the Avengers for help in the reconstruction, but Mara and Canor declined.[10]

Soon afterwards, Deviant forces attacked the city of Lemuria at the point Faira Sar Namora was in control. In the midst of the battle, the Evolutionaries teleported and slaughtered Atlantean and Deviant Lemurian indiscriminately.[12]

War of Seven Kings[]

After Namor abdicated and surrendered to custody of the surface-dwellers, seven parties emerged as pretenders to the throne of Atlantis: The Scientists Supreme of Old Atlantis, Abbot and the Octomonks, King Kailani of the Secret Seas, the King in Coral, the Lord of Orphans, Attuma (Earth-616)King Attuma]] of the Skarka, and Snake-worshiping Lemurians. Amidst the War of Seven Seas, Atlantis was abandoned, and Lemuria ended up in ruins.[13]

Facts[]

Economy[]

The major resources of Lemuria are kelp, machinery, chemicals, and oil.

The currency used in Lemuria is unrevealed.[1]

Languages[]

The major languages of Lemuria were the Atlantean and the Lemurian.[1]

Alternate Realities[]

Earth-1610[]

Lemuria was an ancient city-state that stood besides Atlantis.[14] Lemuria was the sole rival of Atlantis, and warred against it.[15] The Lemurians were surface-dwellers, that ruled the surface, while Atlantis ruled the seas, as dictated by their treaty, which was law, for nine millenia. They used the Atlantean city of Sestanivor as an embassy. As such, it had rooms for oxygen breathers. To protect its citizens, the city had a cordon of telepathic beacons to ward off deep sea predators. The city was the site of nesting for the Tan-Ed-Drul - the species that lead to the fall of the Atlantean empire,[16] though it was presumed to be a Lemurian strike.[15]
