History
In a previous multiverse, there was a sentient planet called Leviathan, and this planet had a symbiotic relationship with its inhabitants. One day, one of the wands of Watoomb was found on the planet, and its people were corrupted by it and became victims of their own greed and cruelty.[1]
The planet, now stained with darkness, was destroyed, but, when the multiverse ended, fragments of Leviathan fell into the new multiverse, scattered throughout time and space. By the 19th century, the being (still incomplete) merged with Kushala and became her Spirit of Vengeance.[1]
For a time, Kushala searched for a cure, but, after being separated from it for a while, she realized she couldn't allow that power to fall into the wrong hands and that she would have to "burn so the world does not".[2]
Eventually, the last fragment of the beast possessed Johnny Blaze, and Dr. Strange deemed Kushala, thanks to her ability to 'Ride the Spirit', the only one who could banish it. However, she soon realized that the real target of the beast was not Johnny, but her.[1]
Within Johnny's subconscious, she was forced to confront the last fragment of the Leviathan. At first, she tried to fight the beast with her powers to prevent it from being reborn, but she soon realized that she didn't stand a chance against it, so, instead, she let go of all her desires for vengeance and calmed down. As Kushala tamed the part of the demon inside of her, the remaining bit grew weaker and smaller, and in the end, Kushala ate it, finally reuniting all the pieces, but under her control.[1]See Also
