History
Origins[]
Lloigoroth was one of the Great Old Ones,[3] extradimensional beings predating Earth,[4] also known as the Nameless Ones.[1]
Modern days[]
The Grim Reaper invoked Lloigoroth, asking the Nameless One to grant him the power he sought, and swearing on Yog-Sokot and Shuma-Gorath to repay him with decay, corruption and death. The Grim Reaper then went on a killing spree, crashing down a plane, and capturing a New York subway, then provoking the Avengers to attack him.[1]
As the Avengers ultimately managed to reason with him, the Grim Reaper abandoned his fight, and was immediately attacked by Lloigoroth who devoured him as a punishment.[2]
Lloigoroth was one of many names of an incantation used by Jack Riley to defend himself against Daimon Hellstrom.[5]Notes
- Lloigoroth, a Great Old One, is presumably a reference to Lloigor, a Cthulhu Mythos entity created by August Derleth and Mark Schorer in their short story "The Lair of the Star Spawn" (1932), and later described as a race or type of creatures. Grant Morrison would name the Lloigor as the many-angled ones in his story story Zenith (1987),[6] a name later used to describe the Great Old Ones in Marvel Comics during the Realm of Kings event (2009).[7]
Trivia
- The Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe hypothesized that Lloigoroth's form was inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos entity Y'golonac, who possessed eyes on his palms.[8]
