History

The London Sanctum was one of three Sanctums created by Agamotto and maintained by the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Along with the New York Sanctum and the Hong Kong Sanctum, the London Sanctum acted as a planet-wide mystical defensive ward and as a base from which the Masters of the Mystic Arts conducted their activities. It had a fixed dimensional portal connecting it to Kamar-Taj in Nepal and a more conventional entrance on a busy street in the heart of London. Master Sol Rama acted as the last master and guardian of the London Sanctum.[1]

When Kaecilius led a splinter group away from the ancient order, they stole pages from the Book of Cagliostro in the Library of Kamar-Taj and escape through the gate to the London Sanctum. They did not get far before being trapped in the Mirror Dimension by the Ancient One. Although Kaecilius and some of his Zealots escaped via a Sling Ring, many of the Zealots perished.[1]

To bring eternal life to the world, Kaecilius made a pact with Dormammu that necessitated the destruction of the three Sanctums. The London Sanctum was the first to fall due to a magical explosion caused by Kaecilius. There were apparently no survivors in the attack, with Master Rama dying at the gate to Kamar-Taj.[1]
