Low mysterium is an unstable pseudo version of the anti-magic metal mysterium.[3]
History
Low mysterium was created by the witch-slaying alchemist Hexfinder in order to kill Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, who had absorbed the true Darkhold. Hexfinder used the Philosopher's Staff to temporally transmute mock mysterium near Lotkill, resulting in low mysterium "always" being there.[4] Due to this fact, Jarnette Chase was able to possess a worry stone made of it and later handed it down to Wanda for investigation at the Emporium.[5]
After Wanda's magical inquiry of the stone had failed, she requested the help of her sister Polaris and was told that the stone was an unstable ore similar to mysterium but way less refined.[6] Later, Wanda battled Scythia and was hurt by the stone; Scythia found more of it in a nearby cave and constructed a suit of armor, but Wanda was able to win by exploiting a large gap in the armor.[7] Joseph, a clone of Wanda's father Magneto, arrived and studied the rock with Wanda, but it was a trick by Hexfinder. Using his magnetic powers, he reshaped the worry stone into a blade to cut off some of Wanda's fingers.[8] Finally, Hexfinder revealed herself to Wanda and used Joseph to summon a large amount of low mysterium to trap and weaken her prey. However, Joseph decided to betray Hexfinder for Wanda and used his remaining power to permanently transmute all existing deposits of low mysterium, costing him his life. After Wanda defeated Hexfinder, she spread around the new metallic metacrystal Joseph had created, which was translucent and had unique healing properties, named iozium.[4]Properties
—Scarlet Witch[source]Intriguing. I've been all over this and many worlds. Rewritten reality itself. And yet, even rough, this stone resists me. My spells bend around it, like oil in water. I cannot influence it. Not directly...this should not be.
Low mysterium has magnetic and antimagical properties similar to real mysterium's but not as good.[3] It is artificial, extremely unstable, and barely holds itself together.[9] Nevertheless, Wanda Maximoff says that its resistence to magic is greater than that of cold iron, orichalcum, and uru;[10] her spells bend around it;[5] it can pierce her defenses;[11] and close proximity to a large amount of it dulls her powers.[4]

Trivia
