Lycus was a noble Euboean.[1]

In 1277 B.C., as Hercules was achieving the final of his Twelve Labors of Hercules by going to the Underworld to rescue Theseus, everyone thought he was dead, including Lycus, who took advantage of his absence to seize control of Thebes, killed Hercules' father-in-law King Creon, and condemned his wife Megara and his three sons to death.[1]

On his return, Hercules became so enraged that he ended up killing his family in his frenzy.[1]
