Mac Gargan was experimented on and turned into the supervillian Scorpion. He became an adversary of Spider-Man before retiring the identity and seeking medical help for the drawbacks of his transformation.
One day, he awoke in a new scorpion suit and began hearing voices that commanded him to kill Spider-Man. He ambushed the hero in West Village, but Spidey was able to defeat Gargan and remove the control chip from Scorpion's back, severing his connection to the voices. Mac sorrowfully thought of prison, but Spidey let him go free.[1]
