Machan was psychic construct created by Charles Xavier within the mind of Namor to help him cope with the loss of a U.S. Army combat medic named Tommy Machan.

Machan later used the power of the Serpent Crown to leave Namor's mind and possess U.S. Navy Commander Roman Peterson.
