Quote1 Funny. I was one of the first Avengers. And then I belong to a group call the Defenders. And I seem to recall Namor and the Torch were also part of a group. But in the end, groups aren't necessary, I suppose. If you're sufficiently strong and ingenious enough, you don't need anybody. Not when you're the Maestro. Quote2

Synopsis for "Fade to Black"

Maestro and Blonsky still sit on the beach, and still waiting for Winston to supposedly teleport them to Latveria. Winstron's device is found by Namor, Torch, and Doom. The latter quickly deduce that Blonsky is not coming back alone.

Blonsky and Maestro have a conversation in which the former explains to Maestro the reason he wants to die, stating that he has nothing left to live for as everyone he knew and loved are long dead. Maestro replies that even though he is in a similar situation to Blonsky's, he refused to give up on his life; he recalls how many people who tried to kill him in the past, and should he dies then he would see this as a victory for his enemies. Blonsky and Maestro are then teleport to Castle Doom, specifically in a dungeon cell.

Doom appears in a viewing screen before his captives and tells them there is no escape as the bars and floor holding them are made of Adamantium. Rather than having them imprisoned, Doom unleashes poison gas - knowing that Blonsky and Maestro can hold their breath long, he can expect they will not hold forever. But Maestro undermines Doom's trap: he transform back to Bruce Banner and using his scrawny body to fit through the Adamantium bars with a push from the Abomination. Bruce then transforms back into the Maestro and he uses his strength to lift the bars off from their hinges (as they are not made of Adamantium) and frees Blonsky.

Blonsky runs to Doom's computer center while Maestro battle against Namor. During the fight, Namor lash out at Maestro for betraying their chance of working together with Doom to rule the world. Maestro refutes that the reason why he betrayed Namor is because he was never trustworthy. Not just the Maestro who never believed in Namor, but everyone he called "friends", "allies", or "royal subjects". At best, they feared him. At worst, they wanted him gone. Maestro's words struck a chord on Namor's conscience as the Atlantean ruler suffers a hallucination of his wife Nammu, Dorma, and Susan Storm who tells him that the Maestro is right. Namor's mental breakdown allows Maestro to knock him out with a single punch.

Maestro runs to Doom's sanctum to finally face the man himself. But upon breaking down the Sanctum's doors, he is shot by Doom, who is equipped in a Hulkbuster-like armor. Doom tells Maestro that he only shot him with his weapon at its lowest setting, and the next shot will truly be fatal. But before Doom could attack Maestro, the Human Torch ignites his fire powers without warning. Hammond is not in control of his powers. As Doom and Hammond are distracted, Maestro is quickly teleported back to Dystopia by Blonsky. The Abomination explains to Doom and the Torch that this is all part of his plans; he has hacked into Doom's computers and took control of the Torch's system, and has also overridden his safety protocols to force the Torch to unleash his "Nova Heat" that will incinerate everyone inside of Castle Doom. Blonsky has finally achieved his death as Castle Doom is consumed in the Torch's flames in which it illuminated the skies that is seen from Dystopia.

With the threat of Namor and Doom gone, Maestro returns to his duty of ruling his city.

Meanwhile, Rick Jones has received Doom's Time Machine from The Minister and he tells Janis and Dakord that he has a plan to put an end to the Maestro once and for all...once he remembers what his plan is.
