Synopsis for "A Fire in the Sky"
Magneto is sleeping inside of a hotel room in France. He is beset by nightmares of his teenage years when he was a prisoner in Auschwitz. He is reminded of his early years with his gypsy wife Magda, and their young daughter Anya. We see his mutant powers first emerge in the Ukraine when a group of villagers prevented Magnus from saving his daughter from a hotel fire. He kills the villagers out of revenge. Waking up, Magnus sees that history is repeating itself as a French woman and her daughter plead for their lives from the window of a burning building. At first reluctant to help, Magneto eventually saves them from the flames.

Synopsis for "I, Magneto"
Magnus is working for the Israeli government trying to capture refugee Nazis in South America. He finds and kills a Nazi named Hans Richter. Two weeks later, Control finds Magnus in Rio de Janeiro and tries to sanction him. He was not supposed to kill Richter who was secretly aiding the government against the communists. Magnus kills the Control officers and begins calling himself Magneto for the first time.

Synopsis for "Magneto Seminar"
Gabrielle Haller hosts a seminar entitled Demogogues of the 20th Century. In it, she gives a dissertation as to the life and background of the man called Magneto.

- Issue shipped with a foil-enhanced cover.
- "A Fire in the Sky" was originally printed in Classic X-Men #12.
- "I, Magneto" was originally printed in Classic X-Men #19.
- The 2nd story takes place shortly before X-Men #1.
- The 3rd "story" is a simply a preview of the story printed in X-Men Unlimited #2.
So there are no original stories featured in this issue.
