Makawalu Akana, known as Spider-Girl and formerly known as Funhouse, is a young mutant, trained by Bullseye to become Spider-Boy's arch-nemesis.[4] After Bullseye betrayed her,[5] she decided to be a superheroine.[3]
History
Origins[]
Makawalu Akana was a mutant girl who had the power to copy knowledge and abilities of the people around her. She used her gift to win contests and tournaments, a habit that caught the attention of the assassin Bullseye, who offered himself to be her trainer in the arts of combat. As Maka's mentor, Bullseye trained her as a ninja for the subsequent three years;[1] he gave her a costume and codename, Funhouse, and tried to test her powers against super-powered people, especially spider themed superheroes, like Spider-Boy,[2] who Bullseye held grudge against since the young super hero precluded him to participate at the Challenge of the Jade Dragon.[6] When she tried to copy Spider-Boy's powers, she became overwhelmed and lost control of her powers. Maka kept every single information about Bailey in her memory (even if a little distorted) until he disappeared, but when he came back, she remembered everything.[2]

Challenge of the Jade Dragon[]
After Bailey came back, Maka took the name Spider-Girl, to become officially the boy's archnemesis. When the time of the Challenge of the Jade Dragon came again, Maka and Bullseye attacked their respective nemesis, Spider-Boy and Daredevil, and stole their Golden Fang of the Gaping Maw, the ticket to access the Challenge.[7]
The two flew to Madripoor, where the Gaping Maw organized the Challenge. They officialized their participation, just like Spider-Boy and Devil, that also came to Madripoor with a new Golden Fang, determined to prevent the super villain duo from winning.[1] After the first round of fights, that both teams passed, Maka and Bailey spent some time together at lunch and he offered to help her controlling her powers by contacting the X-Men; while Maka accepted, she was, in reality, faking friendliness to make him trust her, so that she could betray him in the future.[2] After Maka and Bailey were confirmed to fight in the final match, he had a vision about her getting betrayed and murdered by her mentor, but she didn't believe him. The two teams fought, but Daredevil surrendered to save Spider-Boy, who was almost killed by Bullseye; although he and Maka won the match, Bullseye was disqualified for carrying a weapon with him, a card he would have used to to kill Maka, just like Spider-Boy's vision. Needing a partner for fighting Mist, leader of the Gaping Maw, in the last section of the tournament, Spider-Girl allied herself with her arch-nemesis, who ultimately won by striking the final blow.[5]
New York's newest hero[]
After relocating to New York City, Maka decided to take a more heroic approach to her actions, by becoming a superheroine. She was accepted into the Red Snow Dojo, a pretigious martial art studio, where she had problems befriending her training partners. During a training session she was attacked by Vermin, who, sent by Doctor Tramma, was trying to assassinate her, but she defeated him.[3]Attributes
Powers

As Funhouse, copying Ms. Marvel and Stegron's powers
Psychotomimetism: Maka possesses a kind subconscious and uncontrolled form of psychic ability, to temporarily mimic skills and knowledge from nearby targets through eye to eye contact. Makawalu could acquire mental and physical abilities, be it knowledge over a subject, a foreign language, or superpowers and fighting abilities. Her powers permitted her to be better at the skills she copied than the people she obtained them from.[8]
Spider-Boy's Powers: For unknown reason, Maka seemingly still retained some of the spider-powers she copied from Spider-Boy.[7]
- Superhuman Strength
- Superhuman Speed
- Superhuman Durability
- Superhuman Agility
- Superhuman Reflexes
- Wall-Crawling
- Organic Webbing: Unlike Spider-Boy, Maka has the ability to organically produce her own silk webbing that barbed from glands within her forearms.[7]
Abilities
- Skilled martial artist: Thanks to her mutant gift and having been trained by Bullseye, Maka is quite good in hand-to-hand combat. She is also continues to improve her fighting skills by learning or mimicking the martial arts skills of others.[3]
Weaknesses
Despite being capable of mimicking many superpowers at once, she cannot copy Spider-Boy's powers without losing control, and also for unknown reason, the spider-powers she had copied from him somehow still remain within her to this day.[2]
Maka's powers are activated by her looking someone in the eyes, so they do not work on people who are blind[9] or have no eyes.[10]Paraphernalia
Weapons
- Shuriken: Maka is quite adept at using throwing weapons such as Shuriken.[7]
