The Mala, along with the Uhari and the Chordai, were a race that survived the Great Fall of Old Atlantis.[1][2] They were the Old Kings of Atlantis,[1] and the "lost tribes of Atlantis".[3]
After wars with the Atlanteans (Homo mermanus), they went into hiding at the Antarctic city of Old Atlantis under Lake Vostok,[2] at the the Peak, before entering contact with the Fantastic Four in the early 21st century..[1]
History
The Mala are often confused[citation needed] with the Atlanteans of Atlantis, as they are both aquatic humanoid species. The Mala appear to be evolved crab-like creatures in appearance. It is not clear on their origin but their are hints that these two species are related. The Peak is where they made their home and is were their first complex society emerged. Located in Antarctica below Vostok Station, other aquatic races that reside there are Chordai and Uhari[citation needed]
The Mala were discovered by Professor Calvin Cooley and investigated by the Fantastic Four. The criminal organization A.I.M. had an interest in it as well, and a battle took place between the Fantastic Four and A.I.M., over the secrets that are hidden there.[citation needed]
After driving off A.I.M., the Fantastic Four were taken to meet the leaders of the three races, who announced that they were the old kings of Atlantis.[citation needed]
The residents of the peak requested a representative to act as ambassador to the outside world. Susan Richards volunteered for this role, and tried to arrange diplomatic talks between the Peak and Atlantis.[citation needed]
Eventually, it was revealed that the Peak was a last bolthole that the three races were using, and that they had a long history of villainy upon the Atlanteans. However, a great war in prehistory had resulted in their final defeat, and they had been subsequently removed from all formal written history except the secret tomes accessible only to the king.[citation needed]
Ul-Uhar was murdered by Namor at the diplomatic talks, which led to the deciding role of the civilization passing to one of his children. But since both children were too young for the job, it passed instead to their legal guardian Susan Richards. Cognizant of her new power, she decreed that Namor would give up some of the territory not currently occupied, and that the Peak would make no more war.[citation needed]Habitat

Language[]
Mala like the Atlanteans communicate by means of a limited range of high-pitched vocal sounds and elaborate "signing" gestures. A more varied spoken language is not possible due to the inherent limitations of sound transmission through water.[citation needed]See Also
