History
Overview[]
The Manhattan Project was a research and development project that produced the first nuclear weapons during World War II. It was led by the United States of America with the support of the United Kingdom, Canada and the rest of the British Empire. Nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer was appointed the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory that designed the actual bombs.
WWII[]
In 1942, the project the first self-sustaining chain reaction and thereby initiated the controlled release of nuclear energy. It was constructed in a makeshift laboratory under Stagg Field Stadium at the University of Chicago.[1]
Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee became home to the early days of the project.[2]
Famed industrialist genius inventor; Howard Stark worked on various government projects. this included the Manhattan Project. The Red Skull abducted Howard and his then wife, and tortured him to gain information about the Manhattan Project. They were later rescued by Captain America and the Howling Commandos.[3]
Dr. Brian Xavier worked on the first A-Bomb at the Manhattan Project.[4]
When Doctor Doom traveled back to the past using the Time Platform he was followed back to the future by Baron Wolfgang Strucker. He used his time in the future to collect knowledge and books in order to help Hydra win the war and steal the secret of the Manhattan Project. His plans however were stopped thanks to the Invaders.[5]
The Demon, Nyarlathotep under the guise of Dr. Drexler provided the US government knowledge which would later prove instrumental in the completion of the Manhattan Project.[6]

Trinity Test
In 1944, Baron Blood managed to build a primitive fission bomb, combining the Nazi project with information stolen from the Manhattan Project, and threatened to detonate it in New York City. His mission failed and he was defeated by the Liberty Legion.[7]

Bombing of Hiroshima
The project culminated in several atomic devices, one of which was used in the first nuclear test near Alamogordo, New Mexico, on July 16, 1945.[8] The other two were weapons, were used in the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.[9]
Bikini Atoll Nuclear Test
Operation Crossroads[]
In 1946, the Manhattan Project conducted weapons testing at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands as part of Operation Crossroads, the pretext was to test radiation effects on US Servicemen. The truth was they was trying to activate the X-Gene creating Mutants or the M-Gene creating Homo insectus who are immune to radiation.[10] This was the US reaction the growing nuclear threat of the Soviets.[11] None of the subjects were properly informed of this before the experiment began. Most subjects soon perished from radiation poisoning all but one Adriana Soria. Her abilities did not surface immediately, and the experiment was ruled a failure. She later developed spider like abilities.[12]
Further Tests[]
The Manhattan Project maintained control over atomic research until the formation of the United States Atomic Energy Commission in January 1947. In 1951, further testes occurred at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands.[2] In 1952, at Enewetak Atoll, "Ivy Mike" was the first full test of the Hydrogen Bomb.[2] Dr. Arnim Zola was on many Nazi scientists brought to the US was part of the project.[13] According to the research of Dr. Yuriko Takiguchi, Godzilla was spawned during Pacific nuclear bomb tests in the 1950s.[14]

First Hydrogen Bomb test
In 1953, the US government tested nuclear weapons in the Nevada desert. One explosion freed the robotic WWII hero the Human Torch who has been buried there over a decade ago.[15]
The Saurians were created when the first nuclear bomb impacted the New Mexico mountain range and a number of lizard species were irradiated becoming bipedal sentient beings.[16]
Legacy[]
A scientist who later became Lord Moses was once a scientist who worked on the Manhattan Project. He was devastated by the nuclear horror he had unleashed on the world. He stumbled onto an alien craft in the snow and was transformed. Lord Moses had his agents steal an Omnivirus from his old Manhattan Project colleague Isaac Sandor.[17]
Yoshida Asano was born shortly after the detonation at Hiroshima. He was horribly disfigured by the radiation and swore revenge on the US for the attack and designed a powerful armor. He later found out that Howard Stark worked on the weapon, he swore revenge on his son, Tony Stark.[18]See Also
