History

Marcella Antonov was a great scientist who fell in love with Col. Alexey Antonov. After the two secretly got married, A.I.M. caused their car to fall off a bridge and then took the gravely injured Marcella and used her own research to turn her into the brainwashed S.O.D.A.M.[1] (Specialized Organism Designed for Aggressive Maneuvers)[3]

She had some encounters with Henry Pym, who actually believed her to be his late first wife Maria Trovaya,[3][4] before being modified again and turned into M.O.D.A.M. (Mental Organism Designed for Aggressive Maneuvers)[2]

M.O.D.A.M. was sent to retrieve the Quantum Bands of Quasar for A.I.M.'s client Doctor Minerva, but failed at this mission[5] and was later assigned to retrieve Diamondback, the Asp, Anaconda, and the Black Mamba for another of A.I.M.'s clients, Superia. M.O.D.A.M. succeeded this time but Superia's plans were thwarted and M.O.D.A.M. was defeated by Captain America.[6]

Later when A.I.M. Island was invaded by Captain America, the Falcon and Diamondback, M.O.D.A.M. failed to prevent her former client Superia from destroying a Life-Model Decoy of the ruler of A.I.M. Meanwhile, the Red Skull arrived and broke into the base while everyone else was distracted by the fighting.[7]

M.O.D.A.M. was apparently killed by either the Skull or another member of Hydra shortly afterward and her body was taken back to a Hydra base, where it was put on display.[8]

M.O.D.A.M. was then revived by the A.I.M. scientist Asha Kova as she, too, wanted to use her in her plans. The young Nightshade, however, used her powers to snap her out of the brainwashing and bring her memories back. Remembering who she was for the first time in years, M.O.D.A.M. turned on Kova and was then convinced by Nightshade to take over her company and use it for good.[1]

Notes

  • In the past, M.O.D.A.M. has particularly been a victim of the hatred of Omega Red, who would have killed her if Iron Man had not intervened and stopped him from doing so.[9]
