History

Marcello was the grandson of Paolo Montesi, the monk Pope Eugene II tasked with translating the Darkhold. His grandfather had been granted a special dispensation by the Pope to marry and father children as the Pope wanted the Darkhold book protected by Paolo's descendants.

Marcello's grandfather Paolo was killed by Varnae, the first vampire, to keep the church from uncovering a formula to destroy all vampires. When Marcello's father Giacomo Montesi traveled to Tibet in search of this formula, he was killed by one of Varnae's human agents.

Eventually, Varnae tracked Marcello down and killed him as well, but not before appointing Dracula as the new leader of the vampires. Throughout the ages Montesi's descendants waged war on the vampires.
