Maria Walls met Frank Castle while on tour in Iraq, the two being the only survivors of a brutal battle. They would later marry, with Frank leaving the USMC to join Tony Stark's PMC, War Machine.
Later, Frank took a job with the NYPD and eventually was promoted to Captain of the Special Crimes Task Force; however, when he became obsessed with the investigation into the death of Peter Parker and sought capture of Spider-Woman, Maria took their children and left.[1]
