Martin Luther King was an American clergyman, activist and prominent leader in the African-American civil rights movement.

He died on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee when he was shot and killed by petty criminal James Earl Ray. The assassination resulted in riots in over sixty American cities and set the stage for continued racial tension throughout the seventies and into the present.
