Martinex's body is covered with an organic crystalline substance that allows him to survive the extreme temperatures of his planet, Pluto, where he worked as a scientist. When Pluto was invaded by an evil alien race, Martinex was the only Pluvian who managed to escape. He found Charlie-27, Vance Astro, and Yondu, and together, they formed the Guardians of the Galaxy to fight back.[1]
