Synopsis

Star-Lord wakes up from a dream about his father, J'Son, and almost crashes the Milano into a space fortress. Korvac, the being in charge of the fortress, projects himself onto the Milano and demands J'Son - confusing him with Star-Lord - face his retribution. After clearing up the confusion, Korvac takes control of the Milano and the Guardians hostage. He demands Star-Lord bring J'Son to him, or else his friends will perish. Star-Lord hurries to Spartax and breaks J'Son out of prison. Once they get away from the Spartaxian Royal Guard, Quill explains that deal he made with Korvac to his father. J'Son is surprised to hear that name again, and tells Star-Lord that Korvac was a cyborg warlord who once threatened Spartax's very existence until they developed the planetary shield. Rather than risk letting Korvac use him to shut down the planetary shield, J'Son wants Star-Lord to use Rora to get past Korvac's defenses. Rora immediately attacks them once she sees J'Son. While J'Son gets away in an escape pod, Rora flings Star-Lord's ship into a nearby star. He convinces her to stop him from falling into the star when he shows J'Son is no longer on the ship. Rora pulls J'Son's escape pod back to them, and J'Son and Quill attempt to explain their plan to her. She agrees to help them because of her history with Korvac. Korvac was once a man who fell in love with Rora. When Rora chose J'Son over him, Korvac began adding cybernetic components to his body and waged war against Spartax to win her back. The A.I. that runs the fortress is all that remains of Korvac. While Rora distracts Korvac, Quill and J'Son find the Milano to rescue the rest of the Guardians; however, Korvac has already assimilated them with cybernetics. Quill freezes his friends with his Element Blaster to keep them safe until they can figure out a way to remove the cybernetics. Although they are about to make their escape, Star-Lord hands his father over to Korvac once he learns his father planned to detonate Rora's ship to end Korvac once and for all. Star-Lord transfers Rora to the Milano while Korvac is busy with his father. J'Son boards the Milano just as Quill takes off. However, Korvac assimilated J'Son, and the former Spartaxian king attacks Star-Lord with the other enthralled Guardians. Rora's ship detonates when the data transfer to the Milano is finished, destroying Korvac and freeing J'Son and the Guardians. They return J'Son to his prison on Spartax, this time with Rora to torment him from his cell.
