Looking to make the Character templates a little easier for the new reader. Basically, keeping all of the same details, but instead introducing a new paragraph at the start like other wikis. Namely one that reads like, "Origin in one or two sentences, relation to the MU, current state or whereabouts as last known." Sleeper 08:03, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I think I see where you are going with this... It could definitely work, the only concern I have is that maintaining an accurate "Current Status / Last Known Whereabouts" is very hard to do...
It was actually included in my first draft of the template, but I decided against it last minute.
Can you show us an example of what you are proposing? (here)

Combine 'former' and 'other aliases'?

Copycat has suggested we combine 'former aliases' and 'other current aliases' into one 'known aliases'. I can only assume this suggestion implies that if an alias is not used any longer, we could just say (former) or something similar, where applicable.

I am all for keeping our templates as tight and compact as possible. Data should be filling the page, not formatting...

What does everyone else think about this idea?

I for one have never liked the aliases section and would like them to be combined.

Exclude from the Character Template ?

Hey Guys!

I also think we should exclude this lines from the template:

because I think the template is easier to use without them. When create a new page or edit a stub I'm used to pressing Ctrl-A and copying everything from the character template page. After I paste it in the destination page I always have to deleted this unwanted lines. :-(

Second nominees are '''Place of death:''' '''REMOVE THIS LINE IF STILL ACTIVE'''
'''Final appearance:''' '''REMOVE THIS LINE IF STILL ACTIVE'''
because they apply to a very small group of characters and because Marvel has a way of bringing a lot of characters back from the dead more often then I can remember.

Hope you feel the same way.

PS: Jamie thanks for taking into account my suggestion.

I agree, and think that the Template lines are unneeded. I also agree with the place of death and final appearance. All this can be in the history if needed and then if the character is brought back you can just continue on with the history...We have also been talking about this in the forum section and I would like to hear input on this here and/or in the forum. Don't thank me for listening to your suggestion... I thank YOU for giving it! Ask anyone who has been here since the beginning, I always value the community's input. :)
With the new 'add a character' button (coming soon!), you are right, the Begin/End Template lines will NOT be there, they are useless. Done! :)
As for the 'Place of Death/Final Appearance' lines... that is a tough one that I have thought about before. I agree that Marvel's tendency to reinstate dead characters poses a challenge to this way of handling things. My concern is that there are SO MANY one-appearance characters that Marvel created just for the purpose of killing them off later in the same comic. I would still like to see those two lines used if the character is (currently) deceased, BUT I could possibly see removing them from the template, so they aren't a hassle to remove when not needed.
Can anyone think of the best way to handle this? (I don't really want 'deceased info' in Notes, I think it should be more prominent.)

You have a point there Jamie. So for the moment, you can remove the lines we've agreed upon and leave the Final appearance: line but consider taking out the commentREMOVE THIS LINE IF STILL ACTIVE. BTW the 'add a character' button sounds great.

I am going to leave the template alone for now until we all agree on all format changes. Once everything is finalized, we will make one massive change and the 'add a character' button will go live. I figure the template has been like this for months, what is a few more days? ;)
Keep those ideas coming! I want to get this right!
