Dead staff

What about fields for the date a person died? —MJBurrage(TC) 02:24, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

We actually had these, but it was not shown on the template page. THANKS for pointing out our miscommunication. If you ever notice these things, feel free to let us know about them (and any other ideas to help tweak things). You can use it by adding the sections: "| PlaceOfDeath = " and "| DateOfDeath = " to your articles as needed. Keep up the great editing too! --M1shawhan 02:39, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

Creations

We should change Creations in the infobox to Notable creations. -Mrkermit (talk) 09:20, June 15, 2014 (UTC)

Great idea. Done.

Staff Categories

I know most people have probably noticed, but there seems to be several errors with the coding of the Staff Template. For example, staff members are being categorized into [[Category:Marvel Staff/s]] as well as other incorrect categories (adding a space after the '/').

Then there's the case of the titles section of the infobox. For some reason, the text '[[Category:Marvel Staff/s|]]' is added, once for each title in the field.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that this needs fixed as soon as possible. -- Earth-N Comics (talk) 19:04, August 21, 2017 (UTC)

Heh. Over a year later... 🙄
Here's the thing, though, with this template: Yes, it could probably be coded much better. I'm still reading over the code to see if I can come up with any improvement ideas. But, it isn't the template code itself that's at the root of the current issue.
The template as it's currently written relies heavily on the parser function #ifexist, to determine whether it should create links to certain categories. The category names are all generated as follows:
{{#ifexist: Category:Marvel Staff/{{#explode:{{{Titles}}}|;|0}}s
(With the 0 at the end being successively increased to 1, then 2, etc...)
When the template runs out of ;-separated {{{Titles}}} parts, the {{#explode:...}} will evaluate to the empty string, and the template relies on the fact that Category:Marvel Staff/s doesn't exist.
Except... it does exist. Last year, that category was created as a redirect to Category:Marvel Staff. That's what broke this template.
If anyone has the ability to delete Category:Marvel Staff/s, or can prod someone else into doing it, that should restore this template's normal functionality. It has to be completely delete, though — no redirect, no placeholder page, nothing. Only redlinks will fail an {{#ifexist:}} test. -- FeRDNYC (talk) 06:46, October 28, 2018 (UTC)
