While recounting the Fantastic Four's first battle against the Sub-Mariner, this issue also takes a look back at his origins, his early career as a villain, and a hero during World War II as a member of the Invaders, and how he got amnesia to begin with. This issue also recounts how the FF defeated Namor's creature Giganto, and Namor's romantic interest in Sue Storm playing part in their victory.
The story recounts Bruce Banner/The Hulk's encounter with the "Toad Men", and how he defeated them with the help of Rick Jones. It also looks into Banner's early struggles to keep the Hulk incarcerated during his nightly transformations.
Recounts the Fantastic Four's first encounter with Dr. Doom, in which he forces the male members of the team to travel back in time to collect Blue Beard's gold, and during this adventure they learn that the Thing was destined to become Blue Beard. While recounting these events, this issue also looks back at Victor Von Doom's past, how he scarred his face, learned to hate Reed Richards, and took over Latveria.
Recounts the final act of Spider-Man's origin story, how the burglar he refused to stop one night ended up being the crook who would kill his Uncle Ben, learning an important lesson: With great power comes great responsibility.
