Continued from last issue...

With Michael Barnett dead, Ms. Marvel asks Iron Man help her find the killer. Using one of Stark Industries' reconstruction devices, they learn that the killer was Mystique. Investigating Mystique, Ms. Marvel learns that she is trying to con the Hellfire Club out of weapons.

This brings her into conflict with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, who are in Mystique's charge. When in a battle with Rogue, Mystique's adopted daughter, Ms. Marvel is subjected the full force of Rogue's powers to absorb the powers and memories of those she touches. As a result, Rogue steals her powers permanently, and Ms. Marvel would be dumped in San Francisco Bay, where she would be rescued by Spider-Woman.

This story is continued in Avengers Annual Vol 1 10..

Notes

  • "Fireworks" takes place before Ghost Rider Vol 1 80.
  • "Cry, Vengeance!", was originally slated to be issue Vol 1 25 of the first volume of the Ms. Marvel comic book series. However the series was canceled at issue Vol 1 23, and this issue was only partially completed by the series regular Chris Claremont and Mike Vosburg. When the completed material was published, Simon Furman and Mike Gustovich were hired to finish the story. As it was finally published 13 years after it's intended publishing date, a recap of the events of Ms. Marvel after the events of Avengers Annual Vol 1 10 are recounted.

Trivia

  • This is the second time Harry Leland forces a superhero through the floor into a sewer to be washed away. Previously, he did this to Wolverine in X-Men Vol 1 132.
