Synopsis for "Duel with Daredevil!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Amazing Spider-Man #16
(originally printed as Duel with Daredevil)

Peter is given a hard time for not calling Mary Jane Watson and setting up a blind date with her. In order to get some peace and quiet, Pete heads out as Spider-Man. When swinging around, he notices a gang of criminals escaping with bags of money who decide to attack a nearby bystander who might place them at the crime scene. That witness is none other than Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil), but Spider-Man sees a poor blind man in need of help and rounds up the criminals. Foggy Nelson (Murdock's partner) and Karen Page (his secretary) are waiting on Matt in the office and invite him to go to the circus (despite his blindness) to have a good time.

At the circus, The Ringmaster and his crew prepare the final touches, falsely claiming that Spider-Man himself will show up for charity, to lure more people into their trap. The show begins and Spider-Man (feeling obligated because it's charity) appears, much to the crowd's delight, and gives off an acrobatic show like no other. The Ringmaster uses his hat to hypnotize not only the audience, but also Spider-Man, so he can rob them. Matt Murdock (not affected by the hypnosis) senses the disturbance and becomes Daredevil to take on the crooks.

The Ringmaster uses his hat to get Spider-Man to fight and protect him as he takes on Daredevil himself. After a brief fight, Daredevil grabs the hat with his cane and removes the spell on Spider-Man, then returns to the crowd as Matt Murdock. Spider-Man cleans up the rest of the carnival crooks by riding the Human Cannonball and tying up the crooks. After the hypnosis is removed from the crowd, Matt naturally offers his services as a defense attorney to the now arrested Ringmaster.

Synopsis for "The Sorcerer and Pandora's Box!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Strange Tales #109
(originally printed as The Sorcerer and Pandora's Box)

Growing bored and restless during a meeting with the other Fantastic Four members, Reed allows Johnny to leave early. After stopping a fire, he flies past an old eccentric's home where the owner is chasing teens off his property with dogs. Going to check things out, he meets the man the townspeople call "The Sorcerer", realizing that the old man is a collector of old mystical items. When the Sorcerer wants to be left alone, the Torch is more than happy to help the curmudgeonly old man by surrounding his home with a wall of flame; however, the Sorcerer is even more furious and Johnny takes it down.

After the Torch departs, the Sorcerer opens his recent acquisition: Pandora's Box. With the box he is able to summon evils that represent different aspects and elements and use them to try and rob a bank. When the Torch tries to stop him the Sorcerer summons a water demon to douse the Torch's flames. Gloating, the Sorcerer gives Johnny his choice of death out of Pandora's Box, Johnny chooses flame. This works against the Sorcerer because Johnny absorbs the fire and uses his flame powers to get hold of the box.

In doing so, the Sorcerer is exposed to his next chosen attack on the Torch, a fear demon, which strikes the Sorcerer and puts him in a catatonic state. Johnny turns him over to the police and then tosses the Box into the ocean, and returns to his comrades and is less than modest about what he did that day.

Synopsis for "Beware the Bog Beast!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Tales to Astonish #56
(originally printed as The Coming of the Magician!)

Rushing home, Giant-Man inspects a ring that he plans to give the Wasp. Finding it perfect, he waits for her. When she comes home, he acts nervous, causing the Wasp to wonder if he will ever express his true feelings. Thinking that making him jealous will spur him to finally talk about his feelings, the Wasp tells Giant-Man that she's going to a party with another man (social register member Sterling Stuyvesant) and leaves. Upset that he cannot muster the guts to express himself to the Wasp, Giant-Man tosses the ring away and decides to lose himself in his work, instead of trying to be a romantic.

Soon he is alerted by his ants about a character named the Magician. Finding him rather sinister looking, Giant-Man decides to investigate on his own.

A short time later, at Stuyvesant's party, the Magician appears as the entertainment and dazzles the crowd with his magic tricks. He soon traps the audience under a large blanket and begins robbing them of their valuables. Janet shrinks down to her Wasp identity and tries to tackle the Magician on her own, but is soon trapped in the Magician's magic wand. The Magician then makes his escape. Giant-Man arrives shortly after and is informed what happened.

Deciding to trick the Magician into appearing for him, as Hank Pym, Giant-Man stages a fake yacht party. The plan works and the Magician appears at the fake party. He ends up battling Giant-Man, until he attempts to escape in his personal blimp. The two battle on the blimp. The Wasp is freed, and the Magician tries to kill both ant-sized heroes by setting his trained rabbit on them. Giant-Man resumes his giant size and scares the bunny away and attacks his foe.

The Magician uses hypnosis to stop Giant-Man in his tracks, while the Wasp unplugs the blimp, causing it to deflate and crash into the water. Realizing Hank was possibly still aboard, the Wasp laments having killed the only man she loved. However, Giant-Man soon turns up alive, riding into sight, ant-size, on a paper airplane.

With the Magician fished out of the water by the police, the two weary heroes are taken back to shore.
