Notes
- The above characters are listed next to the Tarot card on which they appeared when Ian McNee consulted them on 6-21-2007. (Topical Reference) The Fool is the only card in the First Tarot Deck that doesn't receive a representative, something that McNee found extremely odd.
- This serves as a sort of handbook, seen from the eyes of Ian McNee, profiling select parts of the lives of certain characters, most of whom are supernatural subjects.
- According to the entry from Ian McNee's Log Book that acts as the introduction to this volume, the First Tarot is a powerful Deck that McNee inherited from Doctor Stephen Strange who used it to select the right heroes for each mission of his Secret Defenders. This means that this particular deck is the one that first appeared in Secret Defenders #1 but was not given a name until this issue.
- Some sources claim that this deck was created by the sorceress Ashake in Ancient Egypt and that they were the images painted on pieces of bone that Ashake was shown using in the 11th century B.C. in Mystic Arcana: Magik #1. However, this possible origin has not been confirmed, either officially or in-story.
- The First Tarot is next seen being used by Ian McNee in Mystic Arcana: Sister Grimm #1. After that, the deck will not appear until Defenders (Vol. 6) #1 when it will be back in the possession of Doctor Strange who called it the Tarot of the Secret Flame.
- Rintrah is said to be a "cow-terpillar in a cow-coon" and that "he will come back soon." This supports the idea, presented in Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #56, that Rintrah, instead of dying, had actually gone to someplace where he wouldn't be needing his mystical tools for a while.
