Marvel Team-Up #34

As Spider-Man sits and mulls over the supposed return of Gwen Stacy, he is attacked once again by the Looter/Meteor Man, who easily defeats the distracted Spider-Man and dumps him in New York harbor. Meanwhile, at the private riding academy of Kyle Richmond, Nighthawk (Richmond himself) meets with his fellow Defender, Valkyrie. Explaining his anger over his previous encounter with Spider-Man, when Nighthawk informs Valkyrie that he let the Meteor Man go free, Valkyrie flies off on Aragorn to capture him.

While elsewhere in the city, Jeremiah's church the Innocents of God are having a gathering that generates enough noise to attract the attention of a couple of police officers. When they try to interrupt the night's worship, Jeremiah destroys them with a bolt of mystical energy.

Spider-Man, web-slinging through the city, picks up a police report of the Meteor Man making another robbery. Deciding to check it out for himself, he offers his aid to the police. When Valkyrie arrives and offers her help, Spider-Man refuses and goes in alone. However, as Spider-Man battles the Meteor Man, Valkyrie enters the room and tries to help. Outnumbered, the Meteor Man flees the scene. When Valkyrie and Spider-Man free the shop owner they learn that the Meteor Man sought a statue made out of meteor stone.

Chasing after the Meteor Man, the two heroes attack him in the air, and are able to send him crashing down to the ground, knocking him unconscious. When turning the Meteor Man in and explaining to Valkyrie about the Meteor Man's need for psychiatric help, Spider-Man is watched by Jeremiah.

What If? #19

After a successful wrestling match, the new celebrity Spider-Man witnessed a robber and thought to himself how helping the cop would help him as well. He quickly halted the thief and made the next day's issue of the Daily Globe. As J. Jonah Jameson lost his cool over the Globe's exclusive, Spider-Man met with film producer J. B. Priest about a movie deal.

Later that night, after brushing off "Flash" Thompson at school, Peter Parker once again donned his Spider-Man costume and guest-hosted on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson where he interviewed an actress. The episode was interrupted with a news report announcing the death of John Jameson and when Peter returned home, he revealed his identity to his aunt and uncle. When Ben tried to talk Peter out of becoming a celebrity and focusing on his education, Peter angrily left them and in the time that followed, Spider-Man became a successful movie star with The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman. When J. Jonah Jameson had Ned Leeds figure out Spider-Man's identity and published it in the Daily Bugle, Spider-Man threatened Jameson's life, then passed it off as a joke to get the point across not to cross him again.

The next day, Spider-Man set off to start the next phase of his career by sneaking into the Baxter Building. After "testing" the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man offered them his services as their licensing and promotion agent. In the weeks that followed, Spider-Man also signed up the Avengers and the X-Men, following that up with buying Marvel Comics. After witnessing Daredevil's battle with the Fixer, Spider-Man offered his services to Daredevil. Spider-Man's first act was to replace Daredevil's yellow costume with a red costume involving a trident which angered Daredevil, who thought the trident was pointless. Despite that, Spider-Man remained Daredevil's agent and placed billboards around the city promoting the hero. Determined to discredit Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson wrote an article for the Daily Bugle announcing its federal court suit against Spider-Man's promotion of a vigilante.

In an effort to ruin Jameson in retaliation, Spider-Man followed his secretary Betty Brant as she met with the Enforcers to pay off her brother's gambling debts. Discovering the Big Man's identity of Frederick Foswell, Spider-Man had the Daily Globe write an article revealing Foswell's connection to the Daily Bugle. The article cost Jameson his job when Lawrence Dyson tried to get Jonah to take a less direct hand with the Bugle, offering his emeritus status at full pay. Angry, Jonah resigned instead. When Foswell asked to see Jonah, Jonah met with him and was given the opportunity to use Foswell's organization to ruin Spider-Man at the expense of running his rackets for him. Jameson declined the offer but began thinking that he had nothing else to lose.

Six months later, during the filming of Spider-Man vs. the Monster That Ate Los Angeles, Spider-Man was zapped by an unscripted electric shock given off by the film's monster Dragoom. Luckily, he was saved by Daredevil and later, Daredevil visited Peter Parker at his mansion and warned that the shock could have killed him. He also explained that Spider-Man had a hit out on him and offered to stay and watch Parker's workout, thinking that he might be in danger. During the workout, Parker was slashed with poison-tipped claws by a disguised Kraven the Hunter.

Two days later, Parker finally agreed that someone was trying to hurt him. Soon after, Parker met with the writers of his next movie and just as Daredevil noticed the scent of spirit gum and latex, Parker fell through a trap door. When he recovered, he discovered that the "writers" were all supervillains in disguise. Daredevil immediately jumped to defend Spider-Man but was soon overwhelmed by the sheer number of villains. In order to save Daredevil's life, Parker also joined the fray as Spider-Man and the two defeated the villains one-by-one.

After checking on the barely breathing Daredevil, Spider-Man unmasked the mastermind behind the attack as J. Jonah Jameson, who blamed Spider-Man for everything in his life gone wrong. Spider-Man then realized that he had, in fact, destroyed Jameson's life by not acting responsibly with the gifts he had been given.

Fear #22

As the sun begins to rise over the city, Morbius becomes determined to escape the painful light. He kicks the demon Balkatar off of him and escapes to a dark alleyway.

Morbius runs through connected alleys, but Balkatar catches up to him and attacks. Morbius fights back but the encroaching sunlight weakens him. To Morbius' surprise, Balkatar is intelligent and can speak. While conversing with Morbius, Balkatar hears a telepathic message from his leader, who he calls his "Majesty." Balkatar lifts the weakened Morbius and tells him to prepare to go on a journey.

Daemond suddenly arrives at the alleyway and orders Balkatar to kill Morbius, but Balkatar will no longer listen to Daemond. Instead, Balkatar bursts into a flash of light and disappears with Morbius in his arms. Daemond goes back to Martine in anger.

Meanwhile, the Caretakers, having been watching from afar, are astounded and worried by the this series of events. They are now unsure how they will save humanity.

Elsewhere, Balkatar and Morbius appear on the cliffs overlooking another world, called "The Land Within." It is the home of the cat-demons. The place is filled with light, yet it does not hurt Morbius, for it is not natural sunlight like that of Earth.

Morbius tries to understand this new place, but Balkatar knows little of his own world as it is, so he dismisses Morbius' questions. He beckons Morbius to follow him to King Gerark's palace where they are expected. Balkatar surprises Morbius by stating nonchalantly that he is to be executed for disobeying Daemond's orders. Morbius is astounded since the king himself ordered Balkatar away, but Balkatar states that this does not matter. The rules are set in stone.

Balkatar and Morbius arrive as the throne room and are greeted warmly by King Gerark who immediately has Balkatar taken away to a prison cell. The king informs Morbius that he was summoned to The Land Within to help solve a crisis. There is a population problem and the King needs a killer.

The king decides a history lesson might persuade Morbius. He tells Morbius that his race was created on Earth when a sorcerer, Ebrok, began to transform housecats into cat-like humanoids. Ebrok created more of these feline humanoids for his fellow sorcerers but, although they initially had the mental capacity of a lower species, after a few generations, their intellect increased and they became a threat to the sorcerers.

The humanoid cats revolted but were only partially successful. Although they won the right to determine their own destiny, the sorcerers felt that they could not be trusted to remain on Earth, so four sorcerers gathered to create the extradimensional Land Within as a cage in which the cats would be imprisoned for all time. Feeling that they were owed a debt for bringing the new race into being, the sorcerers required, on pain of genocide, that one of each generation of the imprisoned race be chosen to be the Balkatar, a title meaning "The Summoned One." The Balkatar must do the bidding of whoever summons him.

The cats' culture and science was enhanced drastically over time, and their population became too great for them to sustain themselves. The cat-men do not wish to kill one another, so the king proposes that Morbius do their dirty work for them.

Morbius refuses to harm anyone. He escapes the throne room by leaping out of a window and vows to kill the king and free the Balkatar. However, Morbius is still weak so he drinks from a catwoman. He accidentally drinks too much and kills her. With his strength returning to him, he suddenly realizes he is surrounded. The cat-men, who saw him kill one of their own, attack Morbius and throw him into the nearby River of Oblivion. At the end of the river is a wall of mystical energy. Seeing that the water seems to be vanishing into the wall, Morbius wonders if this is his chance to escape, so he allows the river to carry him into and through the wall!

Fantastic Four #222

With Franklin back from Whisper Hill, Sue devotes some quality parenting time to her son, though Reed has other plans for his time and takes the subway to the New York Public Library. Ben, who is going to a movie, accompanies Reed part of the way. Elsewhere, in the dimension know as the Dark Realm, Nicholas Scratch ponders his imprisonment at the hands of the Fantastic Four and his mother Agatha Harkness.

Seeking an escape from his otherworldly prison he senses an extra-dimensional portal he hopes will lead to him gaining revenge on his enemies, and so uses his eldritch powers to exploit the gateway. Johnny, meanwhile, is racing cars on a circuit in New Jersey. After a record-breaking lap he is courted by several admirers, one of which, a young lady by the name of Lorrie Melton, takes a shine to the Fantastic Four's youngest member. Back at the Baxter Building, Sue and Franklin are playing hide and seek. Franklin hides in the Negative Zone chamber at precisely the moment that Scratch accesses the extra-dimensional gateway, which by terrible coincidence turns out to be the N-Zone portal itself.

Sue follows Franklin into the chamber and is horrified to find her son suspended in an energy field emanating from the N-Zone. Reacting quickly she uses the Fantasti-flare to summon the rest of the Fantastic Four. As the team assembles in the chamber, it becomes clear that Franklin has become possessed by Scratch. Acknowledging that the Fantastic Four are inexperienced when it comes to such arcane matters, Reed dispatches Johnny to enlist the help of Dr. Strange, but as he leaves Scratch uses his powers to activate Reed's arsenal of experimental weapons and turn them against the Fantastic Four.

Across town in Greenwich Village, Johnny finds that the Doctor is not in, but his presence in the neighborhood is noticed by a passer-by who makes a phone call to the mysterious Gabriel, who appears to possess some empathy with the mystical happenings at the Baxter Building. With Johnny's return, the Fantastic Four manage to suppress Scratch's attack, enabling Sue to encase Franklin in a protective force field that enables the team to transport him to Whisper Hill. A short time later, at Agatha Harkness' mansion, the witch conducts a séance she hopes will shed light on the mystery. Gabriel arrives on the scene promising expertise in cases of possession. The group determined that a return to New Salem, scene of Scratch's banishment, is the best of course action to resolve the crisis and save Franklin's soul.

Marvel Premiere #39

After searching for the Rocketeers for days, the Torpedo finally finds them, unaware of the fact that they have been sent by the "man" who wants the Torpedo costume intact. Although armed with the sonic-blasters that the "man" gave them, the Rocketeers are outmatched and the leader flees the battle, escaping only after a lucky shot causes the Torpedo to briefly lose control of his flight.

That evening, after returning to his home in Westport and his wife Lorraine and their two kids, Brock Jones spends some time in his den recalling how he became the Torpedo. Meanwhile, the Rocketeer leader (Wescott) reports to a castle on the North Shore where his employer berates him for his failure and mentions how he rescued Wescott from a jail cell after Daredevil locked him up.

The next day, Brock is bored at work so when it's lunch time he goes flying as the Torpedo. Lookouts relay his position to Wescott who, while flying in a small jet plane, makes sure that he is spotted by the Torpedo in order to lure their target into a trap. Meanwhile, back in Westport, Lorraine suffers a severe stabbing pain in her stomach while vacuuming and makes an appointment with her doctor. In the castle on the North Shore, Agent Seven reports to her boss that Wescott has the Torpedo following him to the Consolidated Edison plant on Fourteenth Street where the other Rocketeers are waiting to ambush him. When Agent Seven mentions that they cannot delay their plans any longer or America will not fall, her boss assures her that America will fall when their power-soldiers march through the streets as conquering armies.

While flying, the Torpedo avoids the rockets fired at him before turning and plowing through the plane. The pilot (Number 12) uses his back-jets to reach the street where their battle carries them into a dress shop. When a customer exclaims that they're tearing up the store, the Torpedo moves the fight outside but turning his back on his foe gives the Rocketeer a chance to attack him from behind and fly off to meet up with the other Rocketeers but only after making sure to leave a clear trail. After a brief argument with the owner of the damaged store, the Torpedo flies off following the jet-stream that is visible through his costume's special lenses. Suspecting that he's being lured into a trap, the Torpedo chooses to enter it in order to get some answers and is soon attacked outside the Con Edison plant. Although the Torpedo avoids the missiles fires at him, the battle damages the plant, resulting in a power-surge that causes the nuclear pile to go crazy. As the plant's engineers discover that the emergency cut-off has been disabled, the battling Torpedo and Rocketeers enter the building. Wescott again tries to flee but is briefly trapped by the Torpedo who demands to know what they're after and who they're working for. Wescott reveals that his boss wants the Torpedo costume because it was designed by the same person who designed the Rocketeer suits but the Torpedo suit is the stronger prototype and the "man" wants it. When one of the Rocketeers warns his boss that the engineers are saying that the plant is going to blow any minute, Wescott knocks the Torpedo unconscious and leaves him in the plant to die, reasoning that his boss won't get the suit but at least no one else will, either.

As the Torpedo lies unconscious in the doomed power plant, Lorraine's doctor tells her that she is pregnant. Lorraine is delighted and can't wait to tell Brock.
