Overview
Marvel Worldwide, Inc.,[3] incorporated in Delaware on October 3, 2005 as Marvel Publishing, Inc.,[4] is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, LLC. which operates the publishing business of the company, commonly known as Marvel Comics and Marvel Publishing.[5]
Marvel Entertainment
The Marvel Publishing division of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. was incorporated as Marvel Publishing, Inc. in the state of Delaware on October 3, 2005. Alan Fine, President and Chief Executive Officer of Toy Biz and Marvel Publishing divisions was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed subsidiary, with Dan Buckley continuing to serve as Publisher of the company. Marvel Entertainment's Executive Vice President and General Counsel John Turitzin and Vice President, Secretary and Associate General Counsel Benjamin Dean composed Marvel Publishing, Inc.'s Board of Directors, also serving as Executive Vice President and Secretary of the company, respectively. Kenneth West, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Marvel Entertaiment, Inc. also served in the same capacity at the subsidiary, also bearing the title of Treasurer.[6]
When Alan Fine was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Marvel Characters, Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of Marvel Toys & Publishing divisions,[7] he handed over the presidency of Marvel Publishing, Inc. to Buckley, who added President of Publishing - Print & Digital Media to his Publisher title.[8]
Both Fine and Buckley were promoted on April 28, 2009, to Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and Chief Executive Officer & Publisher - Print, Animation & Digital Media, respectively. Fine handed over the Chief Executive Officer title of Marvel Publishing, Inc. to Buckley, who assumed full control of the publishing subsidiary as Publisher, President and Chief Executive Officer.[9][10]
The Walt Disney Company
Following the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. concluded by The Walt Disney Company on December 31, 2009, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. was merged into a wholly-owned subsidiary of Disney, Maverick Merger Sub LLC., which was renamed Marvel Entertainment, LLC. on the same day.[11] Starting from January 1, 2010, Marvel Entertainment, LLC. acted as the holding company for the Disney-owned Marvel business, while the operational funcions were transferred to the subsidiary Marvel Publishing, Inc., which was renamed Marvel Worldwide, Inc. on January 5, 2010.[12]
Both Isaac Perlmutter and Alan Fine, who had served as Marvel Entertainment, Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President, Office of the Chief Executive, respectively, were appointed Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President, Office of the President of Marvel Worldwide, Inc., while Buckley initially retained his title of Chief Executive Officer and Publisher - Print, Animation & Digital Media and President of Marvel Worldwide, Inc.[13]
Concurrently to the formation of Marvel Television, Inc. subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, LLC. on June 14, 2010, Buckley changed his title to Publisher & President - Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide, Inc.[14]
Alan Fine replaced Buckley as President of Marvel Worldwide, Inc. in September 2013,[15] when he was promoted to President, Marvel Entertainment,[16] while Buckley was later promoted in early 2014 as President, TV, Publishing & Brand Management reporting to Fine.[17]
Perlmutter's title changed from Chief Executive Officer, Marvel Entertainment to Chairman, Marvel Entertainment on November 16, 2016, when he was appointed Chairman of the newly formed Marvel Brands, LLC. subsidiary of Marvel Characters, Inc., effectively ceasing to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Marvel Worldwide, Inc.[18]
Effective January 1, 2017, Dan Buckley replaced Alan Fine as President, Marvel Entertainment,[19] although Fine remained in charge of the publishing business as President of Marvel Worldwide, Inc. until at least April 27, 2018.[20][21]
