History

Peter Phillips was a false ventriloquist, as his partner, the puppet Oscar, was actually a living puppet and therefore it was the puppet itself that spoke. When Peter and Oscar met Mary Brown, a Globe reporter who covered entertainment and loved ventriloquism, they both fell in love with her, but Peter pointed out that a puppet could never have a woman as a companion anyway. As time passed and he continued to meet Mary, Oscar continued to love Mary and one night, speaking in his sleep, he revealed that the next day he would reveal it to Mary. Fearing that after this revelation, Mary would discover that Oscar was alive and that he was therefore a false ventriloquist, he decided to kill Oscar. The next day, seeing that Peter was alone without Oscar, Mary asked him why there was no Oscar with him and he in return told her that he had gotten tired of the puppet and had torn it to pieces and immediately afterwards he declared himself to Mary asking her to marry him, but at that point Mary revealed herself as a living puppet and that she was interested in Oscar and not him and strangled him.[1]
