In Earth-982, Daredevil was murdered by the Kingpin while saving the life of Kaine. Kaine attempted to revive Daredevil by sorcery, but he inadvertently bonded both Daredevil's soul and the demon Zarathos to Reilly Tyne, who became the superhero Darkdevil.
