The history of Maximus of Earth-9997 mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart. In recent history on Earth-9997, Maximus plotted a scheme in which he created a bomb that would unleash the Terrigen Mists into Earth's atmosphere. This was during a time when the Inhuman nation became sick of living in isolation and decided to leave the Hidden Land to find their own way among humanity.
The Inhuman Royal Family would try and stop Maximus' mad scheme, and during the fight Maximus would kill Lockjaw. In retaliation, Medusa would end up killing Maximus, snapping his neck. Maximus' legacy would be in that Black Bolt, realizing that his people would be persecuted by humanity due to their prejudice towards all that is different, would activate the bomb before the Inhuman Royal Family sought to find a new destiny among the stars.
Like all those who died, Maximus' soul would end up in the Realm of the Dead, a realm created by the Elders of the Universe to collect the fragments of the Multiverse. There, Maximus would endlessly battle against other super being. When Black Bolt joined Mar-Vell's army battling Death, he stated that it was Maximus who convinced him that he was truly dead and that Mar-Vell needed his assistance. When Mar-Vell succeeded in killing Death and building his Paradise, Maximus was among the first to receive a portion of the Cosmic Cube and create his own reality. In his ideal paradise, Maximus was the ruler of the Inhuman nation.
Maximus was pulled out of this fantasy reality when the Kree invaded Paradise and he joined with the other super-beings in ending the invasion. His current whereabouts are presently unknown.
