Hmm. For some reason, all of the threads are being saved with "wikia.php" as the title. I'm not seeing that on the other wikis, so it may be reacting badly with a Marvel DB customization? Nathan, do you know anything that might be causing that? We'll look into it, obviously, but you might have some insight. :)
Yea, I had previously written a fairly complicated bot to handle the rename category.
Since then there have been some changes to the structure of characters and such, and the bot is unreliable. At best, every edit must be monitored, at worst, it'll only do part of what it needs to, and the rest of the entire universe is up to the person monitoring to do.
So I've been hesitant to run it again myself, since it's so much work, even when it works correctly.
If you can think of another method to accomplish the same thing, I'd be more than happy to hear it. ;)
Aside from having somebody create another bot, or going through and move tagging al the pages in a reality, I don't see a solution. Since you're hesitant to run it again out of fear for issues, might I suggest running it on a "small" reality? Earth-98091 has only five pages that woud need moving (3 characters, a team, and the reality itself). That way, if anything does go wrong, it won't be to hard to go in and correct things.
So, it would appear that:
1. The reality page itself, along with character pages for Felicia Hardy, Henry Pym and Ulysses Bloodstone were moved from Earth-666 to the proper Earth-98091, but none of the infoboxes were corrected, so they aren't categorized properly (but a quick edit can fix that)
2. The team page for the Avengers did not move over to 98091, but the infobox was corrected to the proper universe. This will need a move tag, or something similar.
3. The appearance links for the first group appear to have all moved over to the new Earth number.
Sure. You can take your pick from a few of the smaller reailties in the queue (<10 pages that need moving). There's Earth-TRN065 (1 character page and reailty page) and Earth-TRN066 (just the reality page). Both of these are What If?s and would just need the red links on their issue pages corrected. There's also Earth-7643 (2 characters and the reality page) which appears to need to be changed to become a part of Earth-7642.
There are two other small realities, but they're ones I don't want to put up for moving yet. Elsewhen was tagged for a TRN by me, but most of the characters from that reality page redirect to pages with Earth-6311 designations, so I want to investigate a little more before we move it or not. And the page that was created as Earth 11052 - Multiverse 1 needs a rename, but the discussion about whether it is an alternate universe, or just an alternate dimension of the X-Men: Evolution universe, has not come to a consensus.
Other than that, the realities in the queue are massive (Earth-80920 has over 200 character pages alone), so I think those are best left alone for now.
Hello sir. Just a quick question. Maybe you can settle a little debate myself and User:Mr.face01 are having:
I'm not sure if you've read Ultimate Comics X-Men #2, but in the issue they had Nimrod Sentinels. I set it up so that the info on these sentinels can be found here: Nimrod (Earth-1610) (I made the page forward to the Ultimate Universe section on the Sentinels page. I figure since they are just Sentinels this works better than giving them a character page, since they're not... well... a character.
What are your thoughts?
Also, that user is saying that they should just simply be referred to as Nimrod instead of Nimrod Model Sentinels (which is what I called them because that's what they were actually called in the book).
Sorry to bother you with something so minor, but I'm just curious what we do in this situation. Also to be clear him and I aren't in any sort of battle... Just discussion. Thanks :)
I haven't read #2, but I flipped through it. Sentinels have always been a bit of a headache, to tell the truth. At one time we decided that each model of Sentinel deserved it's own page, but that turned out to be about 80 pages where the only thing different was the picture. So instead, we provided small sections for each type of sentinel in the main sentinel race page. So I hope that provides a bit of background.
If there are multiple identical Nimrod Sentinels in the Ultimate Universe, and they're all generally the same, it makes sense to just forward to the section on the Sentinels page. If there are individuals who are more or less vastly different from each other, it would make more sense to have individual character pages.
So you tell me, which is more true of these characters?
Yeah that's exactly what I figured. Since they are, so far, just mass-produced identical robots with nothing different from one to the next I'll just leave it the way it is by having the info on the Sentinels page. Thanks for the help :)
Hey Nate, I was hoping to take some of the weight off of your shoulders with regard to bot activities on the DC Database.
I had planned to just use a premade bot system like Pywikipediabot and use it to perform Move actions and the like.
What I was wondering was whether you could find some time to either provide me with some quick tips or dump a pile of knowledge on me - particularly with respect to page moves and making the additional changes to "what links here" stuff.
I was originally just going to try some trial and error, but I realize that with a bot, it becomes a little harder to undo a mistake.
Hey, there's something up with a few character's pages, and I can't tell why. It looks like they're set under a different editing format, but idk. I found a few under the 'Character Image Correction Needed' category, if you wanted to take a look.
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, I've fallen out of the wiki-editing loop a bit.
It's not the most ideal situation, but it's the only way to really have a link to the 'edit' version of the page on each section.
It would have to be able to specify where to add the edit text and where not to, which is why I call it underdeveloped at the moment. Unfortunately, the heading sections don't have a lot of specificity to them, so it's difficult to name them specifically in the script.
If you have any ideas, or would like to take a crack at fixing it, I'm sure we'd all benefit from it.
