    • Hmm, okay. I'm with the rest of the team in Poland, and it's the beginning of the work day now... I'll ask the engineers if they can figure out why it's happening.

    • Sweet thanks. Leave it to Marvel to break it first. ;)

  • Is your bot the one in charge of the rename function? I ask, as some of those tagged realities have been sitting there February and March, and nothing has happened with them.

Also, nice to see that the Message Wall has begun functioning.

  • Hello sir. Just a quick question. Maybe you can settle a little debate myself and User:Mr.face01 are having:

I'm not sure if you've read Ultimate Comics X-Men #2, but in the issue they had Nimrod Sentinels. I set it up so that the info on these sentinels can be found here: Nimrod (Earth-1610) (I made the page forward to the Ultimate Universe section on the Sentinels page. I figure since they are just Sentinels this works better than giving them a character page, since they're not... well... a character.

    What are your thoughts?

Also, that user is saying that they should just simply be referred to as Nimrod instead of Nimrod Model Sentinels (which is what I called them because that's what they were actually called in the book).

Sorry to bother you with something so minor, but I'm just curious what we do in this situation. Also to be clear him and I aren't in any sort of battle... Just discussion. Thanks :)

    • Cool, thanks for bringing it up.

I haven't read #2, but I flipped through it. Sentinels have always been a bit of a headache, to tell the truth. At one time we decided that each model of Sentinel deserved it's own page, but that turned out to be about 80 pages where the only thing different was the picture. So instead, we provided small sections for each type of sentinel in the main sentinel race page. So I hope that provides a bit of background.

If there are multiple identical Nimrod Sentinels in the Ultimate Universe, and they're all generally the same, it makes sense to just forward to the section on the Sentinels page. If there are individuals who are more or less vastly different from each other, it would make more sense to have individual character pages.

So you tell me, which is more true of these characters?

        Loading editor
    • Yeah that's exactly what I figured. Since they are, so far, just mass-produced identical robots with nothing different from one to the next I'll just leave it the way it is by having the info on the Sentinels page. Thanks for the help :)

  • Hey Nate, I was hoping to take some of the weight off of your shoulders with regard to bot activities on the DC Database.

I had planned to just use a premade bot system like Pywikipediabot and use it to perform Move actions and the like.

What I was wondering was whether you could find some time to either provide me with some quick tips or dump a pile of knowledge on me - particularly with respect to page moves and making the additional changes to "what links here" stuff.

I was originally just going to try some trial and error, but I realize that with a bot, it becomes a little harder to undo a mistake.

    I hope you can help.

  • Hey, there's something up with a few character's pages, and I can't tell why. It looks like they're set under a different editing format, but idk. I found a few under the 'Character Image Correction Needed' category, if you wanted to take a look.

  • Hey, sorry to bother you, but on the Content menus at the beginning of character pages the word "Edit" is smashed onto the end of each category. This seems wrong, but I don't know how to fix it.

    • Hey there!

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, I've fallen out of the wiki-editing loop a bit.

It's actually part of a very complicated issue. You see, we use a template to lay out the entire character page, so our templates create the headers of each section, which is used to create the content menus (the Table of Contents, or TOC). Having these sections within the template make them show up as uneditable and not in the TOC. So what I've done is add a bit of javascript to the site, so that when a page loads, the script inserts 'Edit' to each section, with a link to the edit view of the page. Unfortunately, the script isn't perfectly developed, so the 'edits' show up in the TOC as well.

It's not the most ideal situation, but it's the only way to really have a link to the 'edit' version of the page on each section.

Do you have any experience writing javascript?

      Thanks! :)

    • Hey, yeah, I totally understand that. It's not an easy thing to keep up with, especially when you're as involved as you sound.

I do have some experience with javascript, though it's a bit rusty. Did you have something in mind?

    • It would have to be able to specify where to add the edit text and where not to, which is why I call it underdeveloped at the moment. Unfortunately, the heading sections don't have a lot of specificity to them, so it's difficult to name them specifically in the script.

If you have any ideas, or would like to take a crack at fixing it, I'm sure we'd all benefit from it.

      Thanks again!
