—Blood Spider[source]My hands are covered in blood, and I’m the Blood Spider. Yes, that is my true name! Blood Spider!
History
Early Life[]
Michael Bingham was born in the city of Binghamton, in the state of New York, to a single mother. As a child, Michael used to say that Binghamton "should have been his town" because of the similarities to his last name, which people found funny, so he said it all the time. However, as a teenager in high school, his classmates began to hate his trademark phrase and started teasing him about it with laughter. He responded with violence, but ended up getting beaten up constantly. Because of this behavior, Michael was sent to a special class where he would be bullied yet again by a deaf girl named Julie.
Michael's mother used to bring in new men constantly, who were prone to insult him, but one of them, Rick, taught him how to fight properly believing that "a man has to be able to defend himself." This led Michael to see Rick as a father figure, but Rick would also soon leave and his mother stopped bringing in men altogether as she grew tired and wished to remember who she was rather than who she had become. His mother would eventually develop an unspecified and untreatable illness, from which she would die shortly thereafter, so a social worker gave Michael the choice of living with a stranger or going to a foster home, as he had no living relative to care for him. He took his own choice, taking a ticket to New York.
Life in the Big City[]
Lacking a job that would allow him to rent an apartment, Michael lived on the streets of New York as a hobo, sleeping on the subway, then on a bench and finally in flattened cardboard boxes where someone would steal his shoes. He would later steal someone else's shoes through violence, remembering what Rick taught him, but learning that fighting in the city was less about moving and more about hitting your opponent with elbows and knees.
Once, at night in the cold, he would see Spider-Man swinging around the city and develop an intense jealousy and hatred for the Webslinger, believing that they traded places and that he was the one who should have been swinging and crawling around New York, while whoever was behind Spider-Man's mask was supposed to have Michael's life. Eventually, Michael would meet a woman who would give him warmth and shelter if he agreed to become a tester for a new medicine. He accepted her deal.
Hostile Takeover[]
Michael Bingham would then be used as a guinea pig for an experiment of Oscorp involving the cure of diseases. In reality, the experiment's true purpose was to replicate Spider-Man's powers.Notes
- In the comics, Blood Spider was one of Taskmaster's students. It is unknown if this Blood Spider has any relation with this universe's Taskmaster.
