Chapter 1: Homeworld

Prince Argon and Princess Mari, with several retainers, are fleeing on horseback from a squad of flying Acroyears. The aristocracy has just been overthrown by Baron Karza, who has promised the citizens immortality via his Body Banks. When the two reach a place called Shelter, Mari laments the recent death of their parents. Argon summons a Time Traveler, emissary of the Enigma Force and harbinger of the darkest times imaginable. Karza's Dog Soldiers shell the building and take Argon prisoner.

Chapter 2: Homecoming

The HMS Endeavor lands on Homeworld after a thousand years exploring the Microverse. Commander Arcturus Rann steps out, expecting an honor guard. The Dog Soldiers there, however, take aim at him and fire. Karza calls Rann an "x-factor" and orders him thrown into the dungeons. There he awakes in a cell full of aliens, including Bug and Acroyear, who rescue him from the others. They tell Rann that the warp drive was invented during his trip and that Karza used it to conquer the other worlds of the Microverse. Rann seems most surprised, though, that "Doctor" Karza, his old professor, is behind all the recent events. Outside the cell, a bot entertains the crowd by making a young woman dance (they are Microtron and Mari, now going by the name Marionette). Rann is smitten.

Chapter 3: Escape

The next morning, Rann, Bug, and Acroyear are herded into a colosseum, where Microtron and Marionette are performing. Bug tells Rann that Marionette is a princess who has joined the underground and that an escape is in the works. The doors close, but Marionette is kept inside. A deathtank enters and begins firing its pulse-cannons into the captives. Acroyear tells Rann that he is an x-factor and must be protected. Bug vaults onto the tank and throws a packet bomb through its eye slits, while Acroyear assaults its wheels. A Time Traveller appears to Rann and says, "I have many names, commander, and I have lived them all. Some call me the Enigma Force." Rann is mystified. Then the underground's charges blow, and the colosseum is thrown into chaos. Rann, Bug, and Acroyear find Marionette already in a getaway car. She swears by Dallan and Sepsis, the first to rebel against Karza and now deities; Rann is shocked because they were his parents. Pursuit falls away as the group makes its way to the Endeavor. Shaitan asks Karza why they are allowed to escape, and Karza tells him, "that which we cannot fathom must sometimes be made to reveal itself." Biotron, notified by telepathy, has the ship ready to go. Three fighters follow the ship into space, but where the Micronauts go they cannot follow. Biotron takes their ship through the Fringes of the Microverse, and then through the Spacewall, into whatever lies beyond ....

Synopsis for "Earth!"

This story is a reprint of the comic
Micronauts #2.

The HMS Endeavor, carrying the Microns, has fled the Microverse through the Spacewall. A Time Traveler appears, says that the new breach in the Spacewall is permanent, and warns them of a pursuing battleship. The Endeavor leaves the Fringes, enters normal space, and immediately crashes into a huge stand of vegetation. Rann notes that Marionette's "friend" (the Time Traveler) has vanished; Marionette disclaims any connection. Discussion naturally turns to the imminent arrival of the battleship. Biotron suspects that Karza is afraid of something Rann learned in his exploration of the Microverse, but whatever it is, it's locked in Rann's subconscious.

The crew exit the ship. Almost immediately they find a huge metal frame (recognizable to Earthlings as a swing set). A huge beast (puppy) comes crashing through the brush!

Meanwhile, back on Homeworld, the staff at the Body Banks prepare Prince Argon for an operation. Karza admits that Mari escaped but assumes the situation is only temporary. Back on Earth, Rann uses his glider pack to get Mari to safety, over her protests. Microtron trips the puppy, Biotron punches it, and Rann finally brings his blaster into play. The next menace appears, a huge growling machine (lawnmower) that rolls over Acroyear and Bug. Acroyear grabs its "fang" (blade), stops it, and topples the thing. The operator, surprised, falls as well. He is even more surprised to find six small aliens in his backyard.

Marionette quickly outlines their situation. The human, a boy named Steve Coffin, agrees to help them and identifies their location as Daytona Beach, Florida. At that moment, two battleships arrive, commanded by Shaitan. One separates and attacks. Steve swats the fighter pod into a tree, where it explodes. Acroyear launches a divot into a scout pod, knocks it into another pod, and both wreck. The other scout pod chases Rann and Marionette. Bug's rocket lance bumps it off course enough to hit a chain on the swing set, but Bug is caught in the resulting explosion.

Shaitan brings his ship around to fire torpedoes on the Endeavor. It lifts off and warps away. Steve swings a rake and damages Shaitan's ship, which also warps away. Now alone in a yard full of flame and debris, Steve says, "Gee! What am I gonna tell Dad?!"

Synopsis for "Death-Duel at Daytona Beach!"

This story is a reprint of the comic
Micronauts #3.

"What in heaven's name did you do to our yard?!!" says Ray Coffin when he gets home. Muffin, the puppy, is stunned; there are flames and craters; and he steps on some kind of toy. Looking closer, he sees a very realistic corpse, and he pays more attention to his son Steve's story ....

The Endeavor warps in over I-95, followed closely by Shaitan in his surviving cruiser, which fires a torpedo barrage. Traffic backs up. Radar at Cape Canaveral registers two suspicious blips. Fighter jets scramble to investigate. The running battle reaches Daytona International Speedway. The Micron ship is outgunned; Acroyear proposes a more personal conflict. Microtron and Marionette provide covering fire while Acroyear and Rann eject with glider packs. The ships dive into the Speedway Skateboard Circus, a skate park. Shaitan orders his ship to split up; Acroyear immediately shreds one of the pods.

The Time Traveler appears to Marionette with a warning and a disturbing thought: there is a tracking beacon onboard the Endeavor, and Baron Karza now knows there is another universe beyond the Microverse.

Meanwhile, back on Homeworld, Baron Karza welcomes one of his best "customers" to his Body Banks. Duchess Belladonna is 900 years old, thanks to a succession of "donor" bodies. This time she wants Princess Mari's (i.e. Marionette). Karza assures her that she will not have long to wait. Belladonna, impatient, will settle for Mari's brother Argon (captured in issue #1), but Karza has other plans for him. He is chained to the wall of a dim dungeon cell.

The fighter jets reach the speedway but don't see any UFOs and head for home. Below, a fighter pod dogs Rann. Acroyear tears the cockpit off another pod and sends it through the manager's window, interrupting his call to the police. Marionette takes out a pod, Rann another. The surviving two pods reunite and turn on the wounded Endeavor. Acroyear stops it dead in its tracks with one mighty kick, and it warps out.

Rann and the crew take stock. Biotron dumps the tracer beacon. They decide to head back to the Coffin house to find Bug.

Back at the Coffin house, Bug has recovered. He figures the wreckage of Shaitan's other cruiser is his ticket home, but Ray Coffin has it in a shoebox on his desk. Ray calls his friend Phil at the Cape, insisting that his son has had a close encounter of the third kind. And Mr. Martinelli, manager of the skate park, tries to explain to the police what happened ....
